The interior is stunning, but is a massive car (>5 meters) and I can't get used to the headlights. I much prefer the 5 series headlights.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I drove the 640i 2 door last week and I was very disappointed from the driving point of view. The car is very well made and refined with a good ride but it feels heavy and cumbersome in spirited driving outside the motorway, even in the Sport + mode. The Panamera feels more nimble and sharper and has a higher driver's car focus. I expect that the new Gran (or Huge) Coupe will be even worse in the driving pleasure department.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I like it. Beyond a Panamera it's currently the best car as a DD.
4 doors, 8- gear, xdrive optional (!!), 450 hp, state of the art electronic equipment, almost a elegant design with well balanced proportions. And the best: far less flashy than a Panamera. The unique BMW design is a great advantage in this case. Nobody will expect a price > 100.0000 €. In the direct comparison,  the Panamera looks somehow outdated and unbalanced.
I've tested the BMW 650i and the Panamera Turbo in the last weeks. So I've got a good impression in the direct comparison. The Panamera wasn't with the PDCC. Therefore it doesn't handle more nimble than the BMW. The BMW was quick in the bends, and very stable under all conditions. I wouldn't say the Panamera without PDCC is better in this department and I doubt that the PDCC would have done a fare better job.

Perhaps on German roads that are the smoothest in the world and flatter the handling of many cars. Have you tried the 6 on a very tight road with less than perfect surface and camber, bind crests etc., the kind that a 911 is king? It lacks this natural agility and nimbleness that a driver's car should have. The Panamera is no 911 of course but I've found it has more of these ingredients (the RWD Panamera S at least) than the 640i. I expect the GranCoupe to be even less sporting.

The above don't make the 6 series 2 door a bad car. Far from it, especially if  the highway is the owner's main domain. Just not good enough for the discerning driver.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I wonder how the GC will impact sales of the 5 and 7 series and how it will be priced relative to them. To me this is far more desirable then any other current BMW limousine.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I think it will appeal to the same buyer group as the CLS for Mercedes relative to the E class and the S class. It is a tried formula already.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

It's probably one of the best BMWs ever. I like it too, just not as much as the 5er. More than the 6er coupe though. Oh wait this is a coupe too.. I mean the 2-door.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

It looks stunning! Only complaint is that BMW pulled a Rapide on this one. Took a normal 6er and slapped on 2 extra doors but at least they're not doing it at the end of the 6er's life cycle so its not so bad. This car is going to sell like crazy.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

Stylish cars are great...when the economy is OK and people are somehow happy but as soon as the mind of the people darkens, stylish cars are like an envy bull's eye. Not my cup of tea (as many of you already may know indecision).

I can however see a huge success for stylish cars in certain markets.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I guess this is as close to the CS concept as we will get from BMW

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I'd take this over a CLS any day.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

Best looking current BMW by far, IMO. ( although seems they must have gotten a deal to good to pass up  from the same supplier who makes the Cadillac Escalade's center high mounted brake light )

Could  conquest sales from their own  6 series coupe and  7 series, Audi A7 and SWB A8 ( esp with BMW's avail X Drive ) , MBZ CLS ( overwrought new version) , Panamera .

And for the stylish crowd, Jaguar XJ and even the Rapide .

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

i love the proportions....very elegant compared to the panamera which looks positively ungainly compared to this. Wont comment about about which is better to drive, though, thats obvious

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe priced 79,500 euros

German BMW enthusiast site BimmerToday is reporting pricing for the recently revealed BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe ahead of its planned launch in March.

The new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe has a price of €79,500 euros in Germany starting with the base model 640i Gran Coupe which has a 320 PS (235 kW / 315 hp) 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. For the six-cylinder equipped models, the price is approximately €4,800 more than comparable 6-Series Coupe. That places the 3.0-liter diesel engine with 313 PS (230 kW / 309 hp) in the 640d at €83,000.

However, the same formula does not apply to the top of the line V8-powered 650i Gran Coupe which starts at €92,600. This is due to the newly developed twin-turbo V8 engine which adds Valvetronic variable valve timing which gives an additional 50 PS for a total of 450 PS (330 kW / 443 hp). The 650i Gran Coupe xDrive adds €3,400.

In comparisson, the Audi A7 Sportback and Mercedes CLS are priced significantly lower. Prices for the Audi A7 start as low as €48,900 for the 2.8 FSI with front-wheel drive, and the A7 3.0 TFSI with 300 PS (221 kW / 296 hp) starts at €58,600 - a whopping €20,900 less than a similarly equipped 6-Series Gran Coupe.

Same situation for the Mercedes-Benz CLS 250 CDI which starts at €59,857 while the 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) CLS 350 costs €64,617 - almost €15,000 less than the 640i Gran Coupe. The Mercedes CLS 500 with 408 PS (400 kW / 402 hp) costs €80,563 - just slightly more than the base 640i with 320 PS.

U.S. sales of the 6 Series Gran Coupe begin in June 2012 with only three models: the BMW 640i, 650i and 650i xDrive with the latter two launching in late summer.

The complete pricing guide for Germany can be downloaded here.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

If I would have to order my daily runner today I would definately go for it. The seven I have now for 9 months is a joy to drive unless you are going to the city and feel restrictions of its size. The car is just not handy in parking garages or cities.

The 6 would be perfect, distinctive enough to be a step away from the every man 5 series, a bit sporty but still comfortable enought for long rides - LOVE IT!

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

This is a good looking car but I still think it is too stylish for certain markets, especially Germany. Can't help it. yes

I welcome such cars because they draw away attention from other cars...

    Panamera?? Smiley

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

I saw one car (Werkswagen) on the Autobahn just two days ago near Munich @the Autobahn, it looks even better in real life than on the pics!!

Great car, way more pretty than CLS, A7 or Panamera - IMHO.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

It's not that flashy in real life at all. Look at front, side and rear. Barely different than the main steam 3er or 5er at all.

I think it looks very sharp and ultra modern, inside and out.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

Yesterday, I took my son for a ride in the Carrera GTS, I have no winter tires and it was very nice and warm outside, so we spent a wonderful day driving around, stopping at certain points of interest.

Well...we stopped at a used car Mercedes dealer, a pretty large one. My son loves all kind of cars and we looked around for half an hour or so, it was pretty interesting.

At some point, I spotted several Mercedes CLS, first generation. What can I say ? While I really loved how the CLS looks when Mercedes introduced it a couple of years ago, I was kind of disappointed with how it looks to me now.

I get the feeling that perfect beauty and/or styling gets out of fashion pretty fast and what looks beautiful now, may not look that great in a couple of years. I still don't like how the 996 looks (front lights) but there are many cars I didn't really like in the past but they look OK to me now.

So I am a little bit worried of the "CLS effect" in a couple of years: Will the 6 series Gran Coupe look that good in a couple of years too ? This remains to be seen. I would be careful, the first gen CLS certainly was disappointing.

There is the M5 already. I don't think the M/// GC will be any faster than its brother, but just a different style.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

Sure but it will be more "exclusive" than a 5 series, therefore more a competitor than the M5.

    Re: BMW 6-series Gran Coupé

There will also be a M6 Coupe. So, we will have a family-oriented supersaloon (M5), an exclusive and elegant super fast 4 door limousine/coupe (M/// GranCoupe) for the style-oriented buyer and a very powerful 2 door GT (M6) for the sporty/flashier customer. All being the same underneath.

BMW, who have really invented automobile niche marketing in the 70s, are filling all the possible gaps!

Are you sure? Show me the guy who can afford a Panamera turbo (s) and will go for a 6 Gran Coupé? Not speaking about if I could and I have heard ....

I had have a few occasions to choose between M5, M6 and a Porsche product and even the BMW dealer told me that he had nearly never won against Porsche in this segment.

The build quality is different and not to speak about the prestige service you get at Porsche. BMW serves from Mini customers to 7-series. It is a large segment you can´t drill your employees to treat everyone premium. For Porsche it is easy - all customers are premium - all service is premium - all cars are premium. 600 hp or so does´t make a brand premium. Do you think that a Nissan is a Porsche killer?? Even they are faster or has more power.

I didn't say Panamera Turbo or Turbo S, but more general. I guess somebody in the market for a Turbo S want's the best and fastest, price is second rated.

But for everybody else, yes I think the M6 GC is an attractive offer.
