The first pic is disgusting!!! Thanks god it's not the real thing!!!

    Re: boxster

Not bad, this is pretty close to the real thing. A nice photoshop though.

    Re: boxster

Nothing will save the Boxster if it remains under powered. This became clear to me when a couple of my friends children (under 14 years) who are car buffs implored their father's not consider to buying one "the car is cheap and slow".

BTW, the picture reminds me of the CGT but a smaller version. I hope the final version of the Boxster does not exploit the CGT.

From my point of view, I fully agree. The more power, the better. But I know several Boxster owners (mostly wifes of some friends or customers ) and most of them don't care too much about power. Why? Because they drive a Porsche. Sounds stupid? Yes. But I guess we had that discussion already ("posers"...).

The Boxster will have some design elements which remind of the CGT, this has been done intentionally to make it sell better. Wouldn't you have done it? The CGT is a supersportscar and if the Boxster looks a little bit like it, it will sell well. Why do you think Mercedes uses the SLR nose and rear on the next generation SLK and probably on the SL facelift?

    Boxster bashers are we?

I happen to own an '03 Boxster, and although the power isn't there like the 1990 C4 I traded in, in many aspects it is a better car. More fun to drive at times, and living in southern california, I can put the top down almost year round. Like many of you I am awaiting the 997, and will surely trade up for that when the opportunity presents itself, but in the meantime, I am loving everyday driving my Boxster.
As far as status symbols go, plenty of people buy 996 Cabriolets, and after two years are quick to trade it in for the next hot car, in their mind. Its not only the Boxster that suffers the poser syndrome. I beleive many 996 owners wouldn't look twice at a 993 because its to old for their status seeking.

As for asking advice about a car, or anyhting else that cost over $50k, I don't know exactly how much I would place my decision in the eyes of a couple of 14 year olds. Its kind of like asking a preist about sex advice. Sure the have some idea, but there really not going to know what the hell their talking about. The good ones at least! nberry, I would suggest to your friend that perhaps instead of asking a couple of kids what car to get, "car buffs" or no, he try driving the cars he is interested in. To some the boxster is outdated and in the fastlane of Xbox and slurpees, the life of a 14 year old, the best car to them is the newest and shinyest, i.e. a nissan Z or a BMW Z4, or whatever the next variant of the letter "Z" will be to attract the simple minded to the "idea" of a car like Porsche, possibly with more horespower, or faster 0-60, but laking in oh so many other ways!

Finally after months someone has answered my question, at least part of it. If Porsche would adopt CGT desgin influences for the new Boxster, wouldn't they do it for the rest of the range???? The Boxster and CGT would look somewhat out of place next to the Cayenne and 997 in terms of design?

I'm sure we all see CGT design influence on the next 911(998) when it roles out.

    Re: Boxster bashers are we?

When will the 998 be out? I am sure that the 998's design will be revolutionary. Can't wait! Should have a flat - 8 too, yeh?
