Well, as long as we get a 997 GT3 with 400hp and a maximum curb weight of 1200kgs I wouldn't care.

    Cheers
    Thomas

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

997 Diesel not a chance, but a powerful Cayenne diesel will be a reality.

Our friend RC said couple of weeks ago that Porsche has confirmed that for the moment (till 2007 ) there would be no Cayenne diesel!

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

I heard the 997 was going to be powered by a 10,000 lb thrust jet engine.

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

Your dealer seems to be sniffing Diesel a lot and was in the state of hallucination when told you so .

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

    You will be surprised Ron
My dealer is normally very good informed
In the last few years he was always right in the info he gave me.
He gave me also some numbers I forgot because i was to much in a shock
Porsche seems be go for fuel efficient engine's with lots off power which is not a bad idea for the future

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

May be he was right in the past BUT right now he is 100% wrong.

A decent diesel engine would never ever fit into a 997.... Diesel engines are heavier than petrol engines and as I'm sure you're aware of, the engine position in the 911 isn't the best one .... so it would be completely suicidal to put a diesel engine in a 911. In a front engine car possible, in a boxster why not....

If Porsche was to do such a thing they would shoot themselves in the foot.

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

April fool's day came early this year in the Netherlands....

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

So, no diesel in Cayenne, but a diesel 997?
That makes a lot of sense
    What's next? a GPL boxster?

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

Would mean porsche transforms the current mainstream M96 (?) watercooled engine to a diesel version. Otherwise I don't see any possibilities, this will also mean a boxster diesel then for sure.
Where's RC btw? He didn't show up here for days...

Thats right he talked about a boxter diesel with 500 hp and fuel consumption 10 l/100km

Everyone deserves a vacation! I think he must have gone to a third world country where electronic communication doesn't work too well.

Didn't he say something about Florida?

Let's not allow things to get out of hand while he's away, otherwise he'll get the feeling he can't take time off in future!

And we all know how unbearable people who think they are indispensible can get!

Hope you and your family are having a good time, RC.

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

RC is on vacation in Florida.
But I am more than happy to put an end to this rumour.
You will never see a diesel engine in a Porsche.

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

Tell your dealer that the spiggl.de is a satire/parody of the spiegel.de and their "911 diesel story" is a old hoax dealers and their hot inside secret news...

    http://www.spiggl.de/
    Quote:

Can we rule out the possibility that your dealer has been using the famous translation program on the info he gets from Porsche?
I mean, that could explain a lot of this!

    No 997 Diesel. Period. Relax.

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

stop right there... while it is true that you will NEVER EVER in a bajillion and 1 years see a diesel stinker in a Porsche body...

Diesel engines can be found in some of the earliest Porsches... the Porsche Tractors

but as far as all these dealers "in the know"... most dealers don't know there elbows from their assholes... and just want to sound special to you and your friends... do some reading on the history of Porsche and you will find where all but a .0001% of these "rumours" end up... nowhere.

Either that or your dealer is on some mighty fine stuff... and he needs to pass it over (puff puff pass, dont park on the grass)

    Nu

Re: Oops I heard the first rumor 997 diesel !!!!!!!

I agree, a diesel engine is inconsistent with the performance image of Porsche. But I could live with one in a Cayenne, but not in any other model

I hate to disagree but what about this?

    Interview with Wideking in Geneva

Re: I hate to disagree but what about this?

So Wiedeking does not exclude a diesel anymore.
I think this is big news
2 years ago he said never diesel in a Porsche.
So there must be something going on like a posted in the first post of this thread.
So to al none believers(RC,ErikAlan,J.Seven,RON) start believing it.

Re: I hate to disagree but what about this?

dedam, I don't believe on a 997 diesel, Porsche will never build such car, what i said was that a Cayenne diesel will be on the market soon.

It Wouldn't Be the First Diesel 911

I work for the worlds largest manufacturer on construction equipment. You've probably seen our equipment at any construction site in the world. 25 years ago we embarked on the introduction of a new product line that required a deisel engine smaller than anything we currently manufactured. We contacted several small diesel suppliers for technical discussion and quotes to power this new product line. One of the suppliers was Deutz, the German manufacturer of air cooled diesel engines. During lunch, my conversation with one of their engineers truned to cars, and Porsches in particlular. He told me that he had such an affinity for the 911, that he repowered his 911 with a 3 cylinder Deutz air cooled diesel. I guess he did it just to see if it could be done. It wasn't very vast, but it had a lot more torque than the Porsche gas engines of those years.

    Cheers,
