Two problems with my 997 GT3. Need some information..

First for some reason my car seems to have some type of airlock in the gas tank which will not allow me to fill the tank completely full. I'm only able to get to 3/4 full on meter. I continue to fill but the gas pumps shuts off as if the tank is full. Have filled multipe times and continues to act in the same fashion. Can not fill above 11 gallons and gas indicator only 3/4 full. Second problem, the car brakes are squeaking quite loudly. Called the dealer and they say this is normal for the GT3. Has anybody had these types of problems? ;w

Check over on Rennlist MJones having the same problem with the gas tank fill and a part from Germany has been ordered. Don't know on the brakes.

    Are the breaks PCCB?

Re: Two problems with my 997 GT3. Need some information..

Brake squeaking is usualy due to dust between the brake pad and the caliper.
A high pressure washing could help, but it only works until more dust builds up again.
We use to use either high temp grease or a high temp rubber paint and coat the back of the pads.
This has a longer affect on the squeaking and works very well.
Your dealership should be willing to do this under warranty if washing it doesn't work.

no. Just have been disappointed in some of the problems I'm having with the car.

Re: Two problems with my 997 GT3. Need some information..

    Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Two problems with my 997 GT3. Need some information..

No problems filling, though mine's the smaller tank for right hand drive so maybe it's somehow different.
Some brake noise but not too bad.
What gets me worried sometimes is a massive puff of smoke on cold start up which the dealer has assured me is water in the exhaust system that is especially pronounced with a new exhaust.

    My Fuel Filling Saga

Last Sat I had PDI (handoff) done and took delivery.
Went to the gas station with my salesman to filler-up, and 1/2 tank was all that could be put in.
I take the car and later in the day I try again and manage to get to 3/4, click click. WTF
Sunday, drove around a bit then before returning home figure I'd try again..Click, Click.
Monday before the Hangover Rally, what the heck give it a try...Click, Click manage to stuff 0.75 gal in.

In CA we have very bulky Vapor Recovery nozzles that once in a while can be problematic.

Bright and early Tues...off to the dealer...where they do every electronic test, all pass.
Research TSB's and some 997C4's had a fuel filling problem which called for a replacement of a pipe..
A part was ordered and delivered from the distribution center by 2pm....wrong part.
The tech worked valiantly to find the problem and seemed to do somthing that allowed a full load of fuel to be loaded.
An email was sent to Atlanta Tues afternoon with a description of what was done and for advice as how to proceed. Too late for an answer, so the car spent the night in the shop.

Late today I got the car back, however the car will be going back as soon as a part arrives from Germany to perform a service action simlar to the 4S fueling problem.

Sorta sucks after 2.5 days and 200mi of ownership

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one
Take your car in ASAP...as my problem digressed to where I could add NO fuel.
Perhaps this will lead to a TSB/workshop action for all GT3's.

Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

Tends to occur with Porsche brakes if used in a low speed environment, like Los angeles . Some folks have had good luck by either performing rapid braking, i.e. 100MPH to 20, or by switching to another brand of brake pads if it really bothers you. Search the forums for the brand, 'cause I don't remember when I saw that solution.

Re: Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

Francis is on the right track. I've had this problem on some of my motorbikes. Do some very hard braking, to bed the discs and pads in properly. Once you've done that, the problem should go away.

Re: Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

If this helps we had a similar problem in our 9974S some weeks ago, with the fuel tank!!, in our case, we filled up the gas tank and the computer was still reading as empty !!!

This only happened once to us, after that will filled up again the fuel tank and the computer started to read as 4/4...

In relation with the brakes "issue", that has happened to every porsche my father has owned, I have read its due to the dust, and in our case really works for me(lets just say all porsche models we have had, have been more or less garage queens! ...

Last time I heared this noise in the brakes was yesterday in the 987S, and it only has about 2.500kms !!!

Good luck with the fuel tank problem!!!!

Re: Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

Squealing brakes might be annoying but it is NOT an issue - completely normal. It comes and goes, but is usually worse in city driving situations.

    Aye - that's the ticket.

Do some hard (HARD!) braking and it'll go away.

Re: Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

picked up my gt3 yesterday, 105 miles ytday on her - had same issue with break squeek at low speeds, (have not had to put in any gas yet will let you know. (i also scaped up the front lip a bit - this is going to be tough but i love it!!!

Re: Brake squeal GT3 = normal with low sped driving

With the fuel tank issues, I went to Shorelinemotoring (aftermarket tuner) and talked to the owner about my fueling issues. He mentioned the same thing about some of the gas station muzzles could be affecting the fillup because he's had similar experience in a C4S. I have tried BP, Chevron, 76, Arco, all except Shell. He mentioned trying Shell. And I did. Guess what, I was able to fill the tank completely full . Going to cancel my service appointment on Tuesday .

Make sure you can fill your gas tank full.

Squealing brakes, that is because the GT3 has harder Breakpads, like pagid racing pads(ceramic-pad). they are more heat resistant. but if you are driving in the city, they can't obtain the right operating temperatur. then the begin to squeal. but this is totaly normal on a car which is thought to run frequently on a race track.

    cheers

There is no reason NOT to be able to Fill the fuel tank at any gas station, Think about it,,,, It is a known problem with the C4's. The vapor recovery muzzle has nothing to do with the problem, since people outside CA have experienced the issue.
My car went to the extreme and would not accept fuel...period, even from a pump nozzle that I filled my Carrera from regurarly for two years.

Take the car in and have it fixed!!

Re: Two problems with my 997 GT3. Need some infor

I had that fill problem with my 997 C2S but resolved after about 4 fills. Does anyone know if the RS spoiler is lower? thanks
