    has anyone driven the new cayenne yet?

     

    about to spec one for my wife (and as our daily kids car) and not sure which engine to go for, not familiar with the new engines at all. 

    some help would be appreciated.   

     

    1) Base cayenne with 3.0L V6 T.   6.2s 0-100

    2) Cayenne S  with 2.9L V6 TT.    5.2s  0-100

     

    The Cayenne S seems like a better deal for the performance, but how does it "sound"?  I have never heard the Pana with that engine but I have driven the current turbo'd GTS and I am very underwhelmed by that engine. 

    by the time I added my must-have options, the price difference between the base and the S is ~ 20k USD.  the Australian Cayenne S is surprising well packaged.

     

    both have boring engines compared to the old NA V8 GTS but it its how it is nowadays. 

    performance wise I am happy with 5.2s or 6.2s.  for my purpose it's plenty.

    for the price, I just don't want to buy one that sounds like a Audi A4. mail

    Depends on what you think is 'sounding' better. Outside or inside.

    If you go by outside, then I believe the new one wouldn't be better than even the previous version, my Cayenne Turbo S sounds awesome on start up, muscular and second only to my SVR. 

    If you go by inside, Well, it will be very artificial like the 718 or the 3.0L turbo Carreras

    I have the S version , really happy. For me the sound is really good a nice "rumble". I would go for the "S" this is the new 2,9 liter engine with 2 "hot" turbo's. Very nice power; feels even quicker then 5.2 seconds. Also the fuel consumption is really good. I would advise you to take the air suspension this much better comparedto the old one.

    I am leaning towards the S, but unfortunately cars are not released until mid-yr in Australia so test drive isn't possible.

     

    any hints re must-have options?

    Personally I did not take the torque vectoring or PDCC do not miss it! But I would defiantly take the 4 wheel steering, much shorter turning circle (is this English?). For me the option i use almost the most is the surround view. The new cayenne is pretty big and for parking this is a must have option, in Europe. With all the space in Australia this might not be necessary.

    the bose was ok on the previous gen but not extraordinary, I will try the burmeister on the next purchase. might be a substantial improvement compared to the bose.

    the new rear wheel steer is indeed an option to get.

    we currently have pdcc, torque vectoring and the power steering it is great. Makes the whale like a red fish Smiley

    confort seats in 14 positions is ok as well, no idea where the sport seats are compared to that. the base seat is a bit crap.

    21 inches wheel looks great but it is a pain...especially for curb and parking spot. too exposed.Smiley

    PDCC is a must on a heavy car like the Cayenne, it makes a huge difference, believe it or not. Actually, it makes the car feel more nimble. Same goes to rear wheel steering. Both make the car feel at least 200 kg lighter, no kidding.

    Torque vectoring is only a must for very spirited drivers, it doesn't influence how you feel the weight of the car though.

    Yes, camera with surround view is definitely a must have option in Europe.

    Power steering Plus is also a must have for a SUV.

    Burmester is definitely a must have if you are an audiophile, even if Burmester isn't as good as I expected. BOSE has been improved slightly but it still lacks "volume" at lower sound levels.

    PDCC is worth it, together with rear wheel steering (a must!!!) but torque vectoring? Not really.

    I hate the engine choice in the Macan. One reason I didn't stop my wife getting a Cayenne S Diesel instead, with the right engine we might have kept it (Macan Turbo). Now for the first time, we are getting a sedan instead of a SUV (I had a sedan before but my wife wasn't driving it, now she will instead of the SUV), the E63 S AMG. I am pretty sure we are going to miss a SUV (wanted a Cayenne Turbo but the lease was 800 EUR more per month, car at same value) but I'll give the E63 a shot.

    Good choice with the Merc.  A good friend has one and loves it. A bit hefty, but plenty of power.

    Actually, most of our friends were blown away by the E63, the car has a certain reputation here (not always the best one though but this is more valid for the middle of Germany and north of it because certain people with a migration background love AMG). SUVs don't get much love right now, even if everyone apparently wants to have one. Smiley My wife will drive the C63 S Cab most of the time (before that the 991.2 GTS Cab), so I think she is good. Only in winter time and when there is snow/etc., she will drive the E63.

    Three? I switched the GLC63 S order with the E63 S. Dealer had a car in-house, saw it, fell in love with it, test-drove one (actually two, the sedan and the estate), fell even more in love (unbelievable performance for such a car) and decided to go for it. Wife was OK with it after we successfully tried fitting in two large suitcases, two pairs of skis and boots/helmets.  Smiley

    So no, only two Mercedes: E63 S coming end of May and C63 S Cab facelift (coming end of October, we postponed from April this year because I switched to the short 991.2 GTS Cab lease and because of the facelift in July).

    I will certainly miss a SUV but this year made me realize again that we don't really have any major snow issues anymore, so I do not badly need a SUV anymore. Also, no long vacations with the car anymore, so it just needs to fit two major suitcases and a couple of bags and we're good. 

    Oh, I also love the E63 interior, next best to the Tesla S interior (from a gadget's lover point of view Smiley).

    I thought so as well but I haven't driven my wife's Cayenne for a couple of months now and I don't feel any withdrawal symptoms. Smiley I would have loved a Cayenne Turbo but paying 700 EUR per month more just to drive a Cayenne Turbo? No thanks. I bet that in a year or two, my Porsche sales guy will beg me to take one at a special lease rate Smiley but too late... It is always the same story when a new Porsche model comes out, very bad lease offers.

    You misunderstood: 700 EUR more (E63 is 1599 EUR, Cayenne Turbo...same value...would have been 2300 EUR)...per month. Not worth it for me. For 500 EUR per month, I could have had a new RS3 sedan valued at around 70k EUR. My daughter is taking her driver's license exam this year, so I will need to get her a car (very likely a Mini but who knows...costs at least 150-200 EUR per month). I was thinking about buying her a used car but it doesn't make sense, the lease rates are low and she has full warranty and no trouble. The Cayenne Turbo would have been the family car and I am not willing to pay more than I need for this one.

    I get it, if you can drive the Audi or the GTS yo probably don’t miss the Cayenne all too much but the are you gonna go out of your way to drive the E63? Btw they have got the sound of the engine right...

    The E63 S will be my family car for family trips on weekends and...my daily driver. Smiley

    911 GTS goes away in October (replacement: C63 S AMG convertible facelift).

    R8 stays...

    I wanted to add an Audi RS3 to the family (I need a smaller car, daughter is also taking her driver's license this year), got a nice lease offer for a newly specced one but this car is too powerful for my kid, so I get her something slower, just for her (probably a Mini, my Mini JCW goes way in October as well).

    So future garage will look like this: Audi R8 V10 Plus, Mercedes E63 S AMG Edition 1 and Mercedes C63 S Convertible facelift. No more Porsche in my garage, which is sad but unfortunately they don't make right now what I want/need or it is too expensive (for me).
