I had an auto broker friend of mine make some calls last week to try to put me on the list for a GT3 mkII and the two or 3 dealers he knew said they had no more spots available, he found one place that said there was only 3 people on the backup list, so he put me on, but I doubt 3 people are going to back out... I'm in Southern California, should I have him try some dealerships in other parts of the country? Would that be easier to get on the list? I mean, it's a 2009 car, how hard could it be to place an order on one? I would just get an RS but those are going for too much over MSRP for me to justify...
Does anyone in any part of the US, know a dealer that would take an order for a GT3? Even a 2008, 9, 10???
And does anyone know a dealer with an RS at about $25k over?
Thanks!
Don't know if you've called any of the dealers in the Penske Auto Group (web site is
www.unitedauto.com), but I would give any of them a try if you haven't done so already. Roger Penske runs a good operation, and you should be able to get a straight answer from them. The one closest to you is in the San Francisco Bay area, in Stevens Creek. Here's the web site -
http://stevens-creek.porschedealer.com/ .
I bought my basic 997S from Penske's Porsche of Tysons in the Virginia suburbs of the Washington DC area. They sell loads of Porsches, and if you've got the bucks, I suspect they would sell one to you unless they've sold out their quota. Here's the web site:
www.hbloftysons.com/ . Penske runs a good operation, delivering what they promise. I think you'd get a straight answer from them. If you call Porsche of Tysons (also known as HBL of Tysons) ask for Pat Driscoll. He was my salesman and is a straight shooter.
If the dealers near you are reluctant to sell, it may be because they only want to sell ones loaded with options. Asking loads over the MSRP is often a sign that demand is so high that dealers insist on selling only to those willing to get loads of options, on which the dealers make a fortune.
Another possibility is the GT2, which has just been announced. Get on to the Porsche Cars of North America web site and register for info on it. While I suspect it is going to cost upwards of $120,000-140,000, it certainly is one incredible car, the Turbo producing 530 bhp with a top speed of 204 mph.
