    Aston Martin saved

So Lance Stroll's billionaire dad just injected some cash into Aston to save it, also got a board seat too and in the process, took the Aston Martin name to race in F1 in 2021.

I am guessing his dad have plans to get Lance to be the next James Bond some time in the future.

Wonder who Red Bull is going to find to replace Aston Martin.

That would have been a travesty if A-M went broke now, with such amazing new models in the pipeline.  Cheers to the senior Stroll wink

it will have a move away from EV in the near to medium term and a much much larger push into luxury goods. Remember Stroll made his money in Tommy Hilfinger...

    Re: Aston Martin saved

Aston really can't survive as a independent company, they don't sell enough cars or have enough margin.

The partnership with AMG was good to begin with, save them development costs for engines, I am surprise Mercedes didn't quite step up to take the brand.

Waiting for the Aston Martin Vantage Lance Stroll edition to come out any time now.

Aston is such an iconic brand. The most beautiful cars in the industry. They do indeed deserve to do well. But yes surprised MB didn’t take them.

I guess Mercedes Benz has other problems right now. Smiley

    Re: Aston Martin saved

I am not convinced Aston will ever make money. I love their cars and they stand out.  But when a buyer has to make a decision , not many will pull the trigger on am AM. Too many other safer choices. Sales will always stay marginal.

AM can only survive within a strong group as a hallow brand , being there for prestige and deco , but costing money.
Just like Bentley in the VW group

Not just money, but also emission target. They have no hope of meeting those unless the thirsty V8s and V12s get mixed in with a bunch of 4 cylinders from the corporate pool. They also make too many cars to be considered a boutique one and get exempted.

    Re: Aston Martin saved

The EU allows for small manufacturer emission derogation over the next few years.  A small manufacturer falls into three buckets: 1) 1,000 and fewer, 2) 1,000 to 10,000 units, and 3) 10,000 to 300,000 units. Aston-Martin definitely falls into the second category and is able to set their own derogation targets subject to commission approval.  Category 3 manufacturers have a derogation target starting in 2020 of 45% of 2007 levels.

    Re: Aston Martin saved

Aston has been troubled for too long to be able to come back full circle unless they are bought by actual car people.

TATA would be the obvious choice when one considers what they did with Land Rover and Jaguar.

Just had an I-pace EV400 SE as a rental for 5 days. Magnificent car. Never would have thought a Jag to be so good.

The i-Pace system has been raced and survived under race condition. They did a very good job. I know many of the I-Pace trophy drivers and they all were surprised they didn't break the car. The race car has the stock system too, nothing modified.

I was looking at the I-Pace too but I ended up with the e-Tron, I much prefer the Audi interior.

They both are really nice cars in their own right. They get trashed and discounted only because they have less EV range than the Teslas.
