997 TT as a Daily Driver

Im thinking of picking up a 997TT this month and was wondering what current owners think of the Turbo as a DAILY DRIVER... This will be my only vehilce to commute to work and back. All opinions welcomed.... thanks!

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

Go for it, my second 997tt will be here mid feb

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

BD, why did u sell the Gallardo, too flashy?

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

I think you will love it as a daily driver, though I think you will be changing the exhaust

great all weather daily driver...although i still find myself using my truck for grunt type errands, crappy weather , guaranteed no parking situations but thats just me...i find myself liking the car more each time i drive it.. now at 2500mi ...unbeatable gt car...even if i had a lengthy daily commute situation in traffic etc, which thank goodness i dont, id go 6sp its so much more engaging,imo....dont forget the photos

    aah986,

I take it your "commute" to work is from San Diego to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan?

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

I use it on daily basis, no problems at all, go for it

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

This car is certainly up to the task as a great daily driver. So easy, so fun to drive. If there's no snow or salt on the roads, I'm goin' out, turbo style. It's probably great in the snow, too but I just don't want to get it too dirty, too often. BTW, it sucks for hauling drywall back from Home Depot.

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

    thanks guys!!

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

I have a 997S (and other cars). I'm 40-something. To tell you the truth I can't drive this 997S everyday. It fits like a glove (can't be lazy and get in and out of it) and involves alot of attention to drive it.

The reviews all say the TT car is great for city and parking lots (as well as the passing lane). In this respect it's a good daily driver.

As a one-and-only car to drive every day? I can't say I'd like doing that.

my office is only 4 miles from my house, but since I cover several hosiptals and take trauma call I am driving around a lot. The state of CA also allows MDs to "disregard the speed limit when going to emergencies (special sticker required on car), so a lot of those miles are in the high triple digits legally

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

I might have chosen the wrong state and profession.

Now that is worth something .

    about Drs. speeding

Here in NJ we had a case that went to the top state court. Cardiologist on his way to life threatening patient emergency is stopped doing 90, gets ticket, fights it all the way up and loses. Only cops, firefighters and ambulances can speed on public highways. Court rules that another Doc could have covered for him and there was no need to endanger the public

Doing 90 was endangering the public?

That is one of the reasons I moved from the northeast to CA, much lower cop/car ratio here than NY/NJ area and better police attitude overall .

    Re: about Drs. speeding

New York State is as bad as NJ. I had a cardiology colleague who used to pull that card when stopped, but that was back in the 80's, and it's harder to do that around here nowadays.

About five years ago, I did get out of one speeding violation doing 55 in a 35 driving to my office (I'm a neurologist), and the officer let me go. But that was my only break.

    I feel for all you guys in the US. Portugal has a fairly relaxed view towards speeding. There are a few rules;

    1. Do not overtake a speeding police car and if you do and he flashes you at least slow down for a while and then gradually speed up again.

    2. Don't have an accident - or at least don't be drunk if you do.

    3. Breakfast, coffee break, lunch and dinner are the best times to drive as there are never any police around. If you see a police stop at 12.00pm you are assured that come 1.00pm they will be gone until 14.30pm!!

    4. And if you are booked with a non Portugal licence it's a maximum of Euro500 cash fine regardless of speed up to 240 KM/h - after that speed it's down to your ability to talk yourself out of trouble!!

Sir, I am an American. How was I supposed to know that the speed limits were in km/h?

It's the same here. I actually overtook a police car on the expressway a few days ago. I slowed doen, moved to the right lane and then slowly accelerated away up to about 220 km/h. He didn't care, as most cops just want you to acknowledge that they're the boss and won't actually pull you over unless you really do something stupid. I wonder how long that will last, though .

My mistake! I am English but having lived in Europe for so long I've become used to KM's, C Deg, Litres etc etc!! Thanks for reminding me that imperial is still the way to go!!

    Re: about Drs. speeding

I can't wait for the day when we in the UK finally jettison the imperial system. It makes no sense and isn't logical at all IMO. The metric system is far easier to understand.

16 ounces to a pound. 14 pounds to a stone. 12 inches to a foot. It's a ridiculous system IMHO.

But then imagine how confused our American friends will be!!

Yes it is . I never liked recalculating ounces and quarts and all the other nonsense.
However, I really laughed my butt off at this speed limit sign in Canada:

Re: 997 TT as a Daily Driver

Hey, how long does it take to be a doctor and drive like that? Sounds like a great opportunity.

I have driven Porsche Turbos as my daily driver for over 10 years 993tt, 996tts, 997tt). Absolutely the best combination of performance, creature comforts, without attracting too much attention. Go for it, you will love it.

lets see, 8 years for college/med school, 7 years of residency and 5 years in practice before I could afford a TT, so obviously this is not the fastest way to get one

    Re: about Drs. speeding

I used to sell porsches. The dry sump lubrication system is what makes these cars wonderful to own! Extremely low cost of ownership and maintenance. Every 2 years or 20,000 miles is when you need to be concerned with an oil change. another change at 40,000 miles along with an air cleaner. and at 60K you will have another oil change and have the access. belts replaced.

Not too shabby for an everyday supercaar!
