    Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

    Dear All, RC,

Living in Egypt, there is no way I can drive my Cayenne Turbo without a spare wheel ! My Cayenne S has an inflatable/collapsible Spare.

I ordered the Turbo with the 20 inch option and just found out it comes without spare.... what to do?
No way I will attach that hideous external spare to my car.

Will any collapsible fit ? Buy fifth rim with tire and leave it uninflated in the trunk ?

    Please Help !

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

Do not leave the tire uniflated or inflated in your trunk.
I am a trauma surgeon here in the States and I have encountered several motor vehicle accidents with spare tires in the rear. They all have become deadly projectiles in an accident. The rear spare must be physically attached/bolted down.

I have the same dilemma. I have the inflatable spare around my sub-woofer in my CTT. I will be putting 22" Kahn Wheels on in a few weeks and it sucks that I will not have a full size spare for this set.

I went to a local high-end hi-fi dealership (that builds large speaker enclosures) before, one that my dealership recommended, and they were going to bulid a "false deck" in the rear cargo area to house the full size wheel and tire and secure it down properly. They would carpet it with factory matching carpet and it would have a hinged enclosure for easy access. I would have given up approximately 10.5 inches in vertical dimension to the rear cargo area, but this is the ONLY safe solution. You would still be able to fold the rear seats down and lay longer items and suitcases flat on top of the false deck.

I bought a second pair of 22" tires and store them in my garage because most dealers and tire outlets here in Chicago do not have the tires I will need in case they need to be replaced from a bad flat.

Good luck. Remeber do not risk a fatal accident please.
If you have an enclosure built please post pics.

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

    Hi RC, Rennteam Pro's,

Any idea on solution for this issue ? I absolutely need to have a spare on my turbo.

Will the collapsible 18 inch fit over the brake pistons on my turbo ?

    Any other idea ?

    Any advice badly needed,

Will the collapsible work when other rims are 20 inch ?

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

Maybe secure it to the roof rack and lock it down? That might be a bit dodgy for Egypt, but at least you would have a spare and not sacrifice interior room.

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

I am sure you explored this option, but if not - What about the OEM Porsche Tequipment option of a rear mounted spare with cover? You won't give up any room inside and it will look much better than strapping a wheel to your roof.
Take a look here with this link:

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

The collapsible spare will work on the Turbo, no problem (assuming you have not installed the optional powerkit brakes).

All OEM wheel/tire combinations have the same overall diameter, about 29 inches, so your 20" wheels are not an issue and are compatible with the collapsible spare.

The collapsible spare is standard equipment on all US Turbos.

    Re: Turbo Spare Wheel Dilemma

    Dear GM Austin,

    Thanks for the info.
I did not order the upgraded brakes. In that case I will order the inflatable spare.

Thanks a million, now I can relax.....
