    Home Link Question

Does any body know for certain if the M/Y 2005 997 had 'Home Link' as a standard feature. I read some early 997 specifications (might have been euro build) that said 'Home Link' was an option.

If someone has an early (2004 build) 997 US production build please let me know if your car has it as standard equipment.

    Thanks for the help!

    Re: Home Link Question

Excellent question. My car is an early launch car. It has the Homelink buttons but it has never worked (I bought the car used). When I asked the dealer to 'fix it' he made it sound like it might not be covered under warranty so I backed off since it is not worth the 1000's he indicated it might cost. They have a habbit of denying that anything is covered under warranty and scaring you with the non-warranty cost. Some dealers are real pieces of work!

To your point - were there 05 models built that have the buttons but not the ability? The reference to is appears in the owners manual but not on the retail 'Window Sticker' which generally lists every little detail item such as ABS, etc. so it is a little odd that the Window sticker did not mention HomeLink.

Anyone have an answer to this mystery?

P.S. My dealer did replace my battery under warranty after first claiming that the battery was not a warranty item. I had to offer proof that they were incorrect. (No really you are trying to steal from me!)

    Re: Home Link Question

I have a 2006 with the Homelink and it works quite well, even though I have a relatively ancient (1996) garage door opener. I just had to follow the instructions in the owners manual and hold the old remote control in front of the car so that it could pick up the proper frequency. I put the same frequency (I have only a 1-car garage) on all three buttons, so even if I fumble for the button, I'll get the garage door to open. It works well for me, except that when I pass the garage (I back the car in), if I haven't opened the door, the signaling device won't open it. The signaling device in the car is located in the front of the car.

In the original brochure for the 997 (the 2005 model year), the Homelink was standard on U.S. models so it should work. Try to program yours and make sure that the front of your car is facing the garage as you activate the opener. It should work, but it takes a bit of time and patience to program it.

    Re: Home Link Question

    My '05 year 997 S was delivered in November '04 .
Homelink was standard and it works perfectly.

It is also spelled out in the Sales brochure as being standard (pg.97) so there should be no question about it being covered under warranty .

With the ignition on do you get any of the homelink lights to light up when you push the button? If so, it's probalby just a programming issue. The instructions at the homelink website are better than the manual. Give it a try again.

Thats what I wanted to here. I just bought a 7/04 build 2005 997S (Porsche Launch Car) that is being picked up tomorrow by InterCity for it's journey to the west coast. I wasn't sure if it had Home Link but now I pretty sure it does. I guess I could have asked the seller but I've been bugging the hell out of him for the last 2 weeks and wanted to give him a break. My garage is set up w/ 'Flash 2 Pass' so it wasn't a big concern. I could simply add a transmitter to the 997S like I did to my old 986 Boxster S.

    Thanks for the info!

    What is "flash 2 pass?"

It's a really cool, simple and cost effective setup if you don't have 'Home Link' and your tired of using those 1970s style remote garage door transmitters. Go to http://www.f2ptechnologies.com/ for further infomation.

I had one on my old Boxster S (2001). Drive up to your garage door and flick the hi-beam stalk twice and your garage door activates. Super reliable and great range.

Check it out. They have super tech support as well and offer comprehensive on-line instructions for most cars.
