Renault loses ING sponsorship from 2010

More consequences of the worsening situation in the banking/financial sector. ING has withdrawn its sponsorship of the Renault F1 team from 2010 onwards. ING has confirmed that 2009 will be its last year in F1:

That also calls into question future sponsorship of various races in 2010. ING currently sponsors in 2009 the Australian, Turkish, Hungarian and Belgian F1 GPs. The race organisers of those events will need to find sponsorship from elsewhere....

Re: Renault loses ING sponsorship from 2010

2009/2010 may be a very challenging year for all Motorsports Sponsorship, especially the ASStronomical cost it costs to play in F1.

F1 may have to get realistic and start cutting back the price of admission to the big game.

Re: Renault loses ING sponsorship from 2010

I wonder how can Renault themselves stay in F1 and waste millions, when they are closing down plants and laying off workers.

That is something I don't understand across the whole F1.

Anyway - regulating and setting up a maximum budget per anno is the right step this year. Still, the F1 is a C-Level playground to see hot number and pit girls in the weekend on the company expense bill.

Re: Renault loses ING sponsorship from 2010

F1 is suppose to be the top dog in racing tech, there should be no limit other than for safety.

If a team cannot afford the expense to play in F1, they are in the wrong circuit. They could always go for one of the lower ones, no one point a gun at them to force them to play at F1 level.

I am no bilionaire, so I would not go into the no-limit rooms in Casino Royale to play with the billionaire playboys. I might however go for the $1000, $500 tables.

Even without Max and Bernie, the sport will regulate itself on cost. Ferrari, MacLaren can`t sustain the high cost without sponsors, and their sponsors are feeling the $ pinch too, they might cut back the money, so does every single sponsors on the circuit. In turn, the teams will have to spend sparingly to fit within the new smaller budget.

But if a team does manage to find a sponsor with deep enough pocket to out spend everyone else, then they should have the advantage, I mean, every team have the chance to find a big sponsor, so the playfield is pretty even.
