    The Technical Principle: Panamera

    From the Porsche website

I was browsing the Porsche website and I do not recall seeing this. Hopefully this isn't a repost.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

    new to me

"Porsche horsepower are felt on the road."

They are getting a little defensive, BUT i agree with them. My car is rated at 310 but kicks butt on many cars with more impressive numbers. I have always said Porsche horsepower is special.

The panamera should have at least 525 and modest weight number. I hope that paragraph is not setting porsche fans up for lousy numbers.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

The base Panamera will definitely not have 525 hp, neither would I expect it to be any lighter than the competition

I would expect much of the same as the Cayenne engine-wise for the Panamera..

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

"...The Panamera shows in principle what holds true for all Porsche vehicles: not one ounce too much, not one horsepower too little...."

Porsche HP can definitely be "superior" to other marques' HP ratings (i.e., peak HP from engine dyno's), BUT if Porsche wants to grab Mercedes S class and BMW M5 buyers (and Audi RS4 buyers-me included for that matter), they will have to do more than grudgingly put forth the horsepower, as though it is undignified, or else buyers like me will look elsewhere or buy Porsche's only if they are a 9-1-1.

If Porsche turns the Panamera into a four-door Cayman, then it's going to make alot of Porsche dealers sweat.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

When Porsche first announced the Panamera, they made it sound like a 4 door Carrera GT, with the 605hp V10 and trick suspension. That got my attention. Now the Panamera is starting to sound like the Cayenne sedan, with V6, V8, and V8 turbo. Who wants to buy a sedan from Porsche that is not even as good as an M5? I don't get it.

The same people who keep lining up for the same cars year after year just because it says "Porsche".

Some of you have been so busy patting Porsche's back that you haven't observed their current business trend: less innovation, more smoke and mirrors.

But as some of you have stated... at least they're profitable. (albeit with our collective money)

The Panamera will be better than the M5. Porsche has invested huge amounts of money in the project and while they want to make the Panamera the best performing four door car, they also want return on investment. That is why the Panamera will likely come with Cayenne engine options, although there might be som differences in the output, especially concerning the top of the range model.

The base Panamera should be at least as fast as the BMW 550i/MB E500. Anything less will affect the image of the car.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

    Crash...

Let's look at the base performances of...
Cayenne, Cayman, Boxster, & 911. Need I say more?

They've failed to impress with the base models of their entire range. I imagine the base Panamera will follow their footprint of zero R&D. (Cayenne powerplants = very bad V6 version)

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

The base CGT is not too bad

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

LOL... yes the base CGT isn't too bad at all!

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

The base Panamera will be the V6 hibrid with around 350hp

Smoke and mirrors? I think Porsche is producing a quality product. Have a look at the latest J D Power rankings:
    from CNN (LINK)
    Quote:
The overall top brand, on average, was Porsche (Charts) with 91 problems per 100 vehicles. (The average car in the survey had 125 problems per 100 vehicles.) The Porsche Boxster was the top-ranked "Compact premium sporty car," according to the survey.

I didn't say "WILL be at least as fast", did I?

I didn't mean that they were producing a product that was breaking down. I menat that they were producing a product with less innovation and more marketing hype (see VTG, etc).

Nice tow hitch. Sets us up nicely for the Official Porsche Caravan.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

    Starting to become interesting now!

I'm predicting a great hit for Porsche on this one

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

These are of the Panamera near Nurburgring, Germany.

    Re: The Technical Principle: Panamera

I partly disagree. You are right with the base Cayenne. However, the base 997 engine is a great engine and I am not missing the S badge at all.
    Just my 2c.
