New BMW M5 Test Result Nuerburgring Nordschleife
SPORT AUTO just tested the new BMW M5 on the Nuerburgring Nordschleife. The car was in a pretty good shape, performance was 0-100 kph in 4.5 sec. and 0-200 kph (125 mph) in 13.8 sec.
Now the time on the Nordschleife: 8 min. 13 sec.
Hockenheim Kleiner Kurs: 1 min 16,5 sec.
Porsche claims 7 min 58 sec for the 997 Carrera S with 20 mm option and PCCB, something which has to be confirmed yet by Sport Auto.
Sport Auto already tested the 997 Carrera S with PASM in Hockenheim (Kleiner Kurs) and the result was 1 min 15,6 sec. due to an excessive hot temperature on that day (42*C asphalt temperature and 36*C air temperature as far as I rememberg) but Sport Auto expected a time around 1 min 14,x under normal conditions.
I predicted it before but a lot of people didn't believe me. It is for me a mystery how people could believe that a limousine can beat a 100% sports car on the track.
You should read the comments on the M5 Board, people can't believe it. Most of them don't see to have a clue about sports cars. Maybe they should drive a BMW M3 CSL for a change, just to get a taste for it.
Somebody even has a fantasy about a 8 min 16 sec time in the old M5 E39. Sport Auto tested the M5 E39 at 8 min 28 sec.
The internet is a place full of gossip, rumours and of course completely false information.
Anybody who has driven several dozends of high power cars over the past few years knows that the M5 is a fast car, same applies to the E55. But they aren't track cars and they aren't sports cars. Period. I really don't understand all those comparisons and passionate discussions because they are indeed worthless.
That said, I'm just waiting for the 997 Carrera S test to be published by Sport Auto to rub it under the nose of those who thought the M5 can beat 8 min. on the Nordschleife. Ridiculous. I expected a time of 8 min 10 sec and the M5 did 8 min 13 sec. Still not bad at all for a limousine but apparently some BMW fans started crying before they turned on their brains. The new M5 is probably the most impressive sports limousine out there on the market but it is no sports car and therefor not par to the 997 Carrera S. Two different beasts for different people.
