Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

German Police has taken action against a gang of 8 people (obviously some of them Porsche employees) - four of them arrested today.
They have stolen 3 engines (of which one is described as an "engine of the future" ) + gearboxes and parts from the Porsche R&D center in Weissach.
Engines have been sold to a "Porsche tuning firm" in the vicinity of Böblingen and have been seized there by the police.
The report does not mention the name of the tuning firm.

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

here is more to this weird story: according to a press announcement from Techart another dealer offered them a "997 TT engine". When Techart did inspect the engine they found out, that it was a different engine. Guess Techart now has a clue about Porsche's next generation engine

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

Well at least this is a sign that Porsche may actually be spending some money on R&D instead of constantly re-badging old technologies.

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

Must German courts allow the public access to evidence?

If the public does have access to the engines as court evidence, Porsche will be angry.

And ..."Two leasing forces of Porsche are to have been responsible" ?? And details about that?

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

Porsche has already filed criminal charges against two Techart senior executives. According to local newspapers Techart has used some parts of that engine prototype for further evaluation after they discovered the engine to be a prototype but facts are still sketchy in public. But if this proofs to be true Techart's future as Porsche tuner may be doomed...

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

wow, this read like a spy novel!!!

    interesting indeed.

Jim, a typical lawyer's answer would be: "It depends."
Under German law it is possible to exclude the public from part of the court process if that's necessary to protect one of the involved parties or witnesses.

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

I would really like to see the new "revolutionary engine" .

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

that was not very clever move...wouldn't it have been easier to employ a spy at the factory

lets wait for the outcome. techart had a really good reputation. i was just going to order some parts from them. guess i won't be receiving anything for a while, if at all.

maybe jan can give us some more insight.....

Why stop now? With the revolutionary technology they've witnessed, they are bound to put out a great product. That is, unless of course they collapse under the gargantuan lawsuit which Porsche is bound to file .

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

how could techart put himself in such position?? that could mean the end of his firm!thats dumb

If the allegations are true, both CEOs should have contacted Porsche immediately to tell them what happened.
Apparently they didn't, so I don't want to be in their skin now. Tuners usually keep a low profile to avoid direct confrontation with Porsche but this "story" seems to have some real dynamite in it. We should be careful with accusations but I heard from our sources some wild stories, which IF true, would mean the end of Techart.IF true, the whole story is still unknown to the public.

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

Before this, did TechArt have access to some of Weissach facilities?

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

Does anyone have more information on this? How it all ended? Tech Art is still in business?

Here's the press release from Techart, maybe they're not as guilty as it seems.

    "OFFICIAL TECHART PRESS RELEASE

Comment on investigation in conjunction with thefts committed by Porsche AG employees Recently

It has been reported that employees of the Porsche AG stole engines and parts from the Weissach development center and offered them on the open market. Among others, TECHART has been part of an investigation and has become subject of numerous press reports. TECHART comments on the facts as follows: TECHART was offered one used Porsche 997 Turbo engine by a car dealer located in Leonberg. TECHART purchased this engine with an official bill from that dealer and in good faith. However, on evaluation TECHART found out that the delivered engine was not identical with the offered product and therefore returned the engine to the vendor. That engine was confiscated by the German prosecution authorities at the facilities of that car dealer. TECHART did not have any knowledge of the origin of this engine. Other information, which have been released in some press reports are not true. Throughout the media it has been reported that several engines were seized at the facilities of TECHART. This is also not true. TECHART has been surprised by this occurrence. Of course, TECHART will fully contribute to clarify all facts in this matter and to resolve all suspicions. 05.06.2007 TECHART Automobildesign GmbH Phone: +49 (0)7152 9339-0 Fax: +49 (0)7152 9339-33"

Thanks for showing the other side of the story as well

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

probably the GT2 motor, or some direct injection motor.
Seems like the Porsche employees are the ones in trouble.
    amazingly stupid.

Re: Porsche engines stolen from Weissach !!

No matter what the truth is,imo, the Techart engineers did have done a simple research on the engine over 1 or 2 hours.

If you were one of the Techart engineers who went with the project, what would you do when you just noticed that the it was a new model engine which you had never seen? You would phone the dealer as soon as possible and return it in no time?
It's just about curiosity, maybe. But curiosity can kill a cat.
