The whole back fender area is a crudely mounted covering. Look closely at the pictures and you can see that it is over the top of the actual fender. You can see tape where it joins the roof line. So, we don't really know the actual shape of the real fenders.

yeah thats is one sweet looking rear already. Its definitely wider than the carreras. Like its been said before the rear bumper is all just camo added ontop of the already existing rear bumper. you can see that in my pic. ( marked as 2 and 3). What im wondering is if they really willl give the turbo this huge opening in the side as seen in many spy pics (marked as 1).. i can only hope this is also camo as it might just be part of the whole rear bumper they put ontop of the rear as camo.. the line (makred as 4) as indicates this so i think the opening in the side is only part of the camo..

There is no real secret anymore about the 997 Turbo.
Imagine a 997 Carrera 4 body with the 996 Turbo side air inlets, rear bumper and retractable rear wing. Just the front bumper will be slightly different but also nothing spectacular. Speedo will show 350 or 360 kph, I don't remember anymore.
So there is no need for speculations, etc. Even the 4WD system is similar to the Carrera 4, no air suspension or electronically adjustable AWD like some rumours indictated earlier.

Thanks RC for the clarifications.
A bit disappointing since I was expecting a "revolutionnary" 4WD system but then again, nothing wrong with the current one either.
Should be like a 996 Turbo but better then, not hugely different.
Maybe a semi auto gearbox a la Magnetti Marelli?

yes. a bit disappointing -- from my poseurs-point-of-view as well
i always hoped for some decent non-retro frontlights with LED indicators etc.fanch: no, don't think so -- but this DSG double clutch system will become available. not sure when, though.

A Turbo with RWD IS extreme...
This is why they build a GT2. The 4WD actually has huge advantages on the 911 Turbo, so if you don't want it...you seem to like it extreme. No 4WD -> traction problems, tricky driving behaviour(especially when full boost kicks in) and the aprox. 60 kg less weight doesn't make driving such a car easier too.

A Turbo with RWD IS extreme...
For some people traction problems = FUN..
.. But seriously if Porsche decide to release a RWD version of the turbo then I would sell thee 997S in a sec and get that..

I am fearing that the new side air inlets will look like the cayman/boxster type. The cammo cover seems to be allowing for that. I was really hoping for inlets that would look like the 993turboS of 1998.
Here's one more observation - why did these guys all stop along the road??
I think I have the answer - long drive, can't stop at public places in order to stay below the radar. Where do you go to take a leak (or worse?)
Check out the guy emerging from the foliage...

Have you ever heard of a Porsche called 996 Turbo?
