Re: First pics of 987 facelift

It's indeed due to new EU safety regulations. For those who wonder what the EU bureaucrats are doing for our tax Euro Euro you may have a look here

    http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32003L0097:EN:HTML

BTW there is another regulation regarding pedestrian's safety in case of a front collision, which will have a far bigger impact on car design (compared to the Dumbo Ear regulation): in future there must be a certain distance between the front-hood and "hard parts" (read: engine).
Fortunately our beloved rear/mid-engined Porsches won't come with a truck-ish front

Here is an example (new C-Class), where you can see how the grill is artificially extended into the hood in order to camo the high engine hood. Of course it also has the Dumbo Ears

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

Here is another example (new Alfa Spider) with a high engine hood:

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

    Mirror

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

The old "wedge" design is not possible anymore with front-engined cars

Un god-damn believable. Hundreds of thousands of words of utter nanny-state interventionist rubbish. All to protect reckless Italian scooter drivers who are un-taxed, un-insured and can't be bothered to wear a crash helmet.

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

Forgive me, but isn't that perticular Alfa front engined??

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

Since auto manufacturers usually do facelifts to boost sales, you have to wonder why Porsche is bothering. I can't tell the difference between these photos and my '05. One dealership general manager on another board said he believes the reason Boxster sales are declining -- at least in the US -- is because Porsche doesn't make design changes that are very daring. I agree.

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

Porsche- Jeck The good news is that the regs will kill that overweight Alfa and make sure the the TR7 stays dead forever.

For countries other than Germany, the larger mirrors are useful. You can spot police easier as they try to sneak up on you in traffic to pace your speed.

It's the same thing with the new mini. The front looks funny and the hood is way too high. That's why I prefer the old one.

look the mirror, there is integrated light for turning

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

    I don't see it andrea!?

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

It's there--just covered in black tape. You can see the outline if you look closely in a couple of the pictures.

Re: First pics of 987 facelift

I thought that was side markers too under what looked like tape. Interesting that they are adding that now when everyone else has had them for sometime. It must be another EU regulation requiring them to have them.

No regulation about integrated sidemarkers, but as the mirrors have be to bigger in the future, some carmakers may decide to integrate sidemarkers in order to
    a) somehow make use of the big mirror housing
    b) to let the mirror housing itself appear smaller by integrating the sidemarkers.
