    GT3 on a diet

I am curious to know how much weight difference there is between the heaviest GT3 and the lightest.

I think I read somewhere that choosing PCCB saves 20kg.

The clubsport seats are only 10kg each. Does anyone know how much weight this saves over the standard seats?

Also, how much is saved if PCM or sunroof is not selected?

If all the options can add in the region of 80kg I bet that you would feel the difference (I can feel the difference in my 997S when I have a passenger).

    Re: GT3 on a diet

PCCB is half the weight of the steel brakes.
Racing buckets are 24 kg lighter together.
Adaptive seats are around 15kg heavier (per pair) than manuel sports seats.
    PCM weights around 2-3 kg.
Sunroof should be around 18-20 kg. Glass sunroof on M3 weighted 22 kg.
I think the difference between the heaviest and the lightest cars would be around 70 kg.

    Re: GT3 on a diet

PORSCHE's response to my questions about weight, a few months ago::

    1. How much extra weight does a sunroof add to the GT3?
Approximately 12kg. It should be noted there is virtually no difference in headroom with or without the sunroof. Depending on which direction you measure from the seat base (perpendicular or at an angle) there is a slight gain in some directions, slight loss in others.

    2. What would it cost Porsche to certify the car without a sunroof?
Cost is not the only issue here (and believe it or not, it is not the driving factor). I would refer you to the October 06 Excellence magazine. Pete Stout, the magazine's editor, wrote an opinion piece on this issue.

    3. How much extra weight does the Adaptive Seat option add?
Approximately 7 kg for both seats combined. The primary differences are the electrical adjustment motors and the adjusting bottom/side bolsters.

    4. How much extra weight does PCM (with NAV) add?
Minimal. The main components are DVD drive in front trunk, GPS antenna, and slightly heavier head unit. I don't have an exact figure.

    5. How much weight can be saved by ordering PCCB Ceramic brakes?
Approximately 18kg total. Of all of the weight questions about the car this is by far the most critical since this weight is both unsprung and rotational. The difference can be readily seen/felt on a racetrack and I personally can't imagine owning a GT3 without this technology.

Re: GT3 on a diet would also be interesting to know the weight of the GT3 roll-cage?

    Re: GT3 on a diet

thats employee of porsche who "couldn't dream of living without ceramics"...This is the first time I've heard anyone say that they can "readily feel" the difference on a track.. anyone care to agree/ disagree?

    Re: GT3 on a diet

it's part of his job to say this.

    Re: GT3 on a diet

I was told by Porsche that PCM in total increases the weight with slightly less than 1 kg.

If I remember correctly the back part of the roll-cage is 17 kg.

    woo... 17 kg

Does the extra weight worth it?

Roll cage really makes the chassis better/harder or mainly just for safety purpose?

    Re: GT3 on a diet

I guess its for safety. The front part is also very heavy with lots of tubes.

The green RS that Walter Röhrl was driving on the Nürburgring (pictures on the web) had no roll cage in the back to save maximum weight. "I am driving on the wheels, not on the roof" was his comment...

    Very Cool...

    He sounds like a hero!

I guess I have to follow him and not order the roll cage.
