What is your usage of them? In a 991 cab even small children sit uncomfortable.

My 8yr old boy loves going in the back. He's constantly asking for Sports Plus acceleration... My 2yr old not so keen but she's a girl...

The cab is def worse than the coupe due to the seats being a little angled forward. But they are still quite usable.

as my boys where as old as you children they loved to sit in the back seats - that was a few years ago. Now they drive their own cars!

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I think for families with (small) children back seats are definitely an argument. Since you can enjoy your sport cars with your whole family for short trips etc. I am sure this lead many young fathers deciding pro 911, this must be a not so small part of the 911 success.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I love back seats out of various reasons.

    1. Certainly - since we have a daughter and she is still small (4 yrs) its an advantage
    2. You have space to put your business bag / suite jacket / coat / golf bag...
    3. the car feels much more roomy and spacious

I love and I'm addicted to the SLS but always hated the fact of the small interior. Same for the Audi R8 - its ok to drive with it around but if you want to use it for some reason - job, Golf, etc. it just doesnt go. The older Mercedes SL always used to have those mini-seats and people loved it out of this reason - it makes the car just so much more practicable.

I hated my 997 turbo in winter with boots and larger jackets. And I hated going to play golf on another course. It was every time a painful experience for my back. Putting the Ticad bag first and then on top the golf bag.

With my Panamera it is so easy. No more pain.

Even a Porsche CGT has room for a business bag, coat, and golf bag -- it's called the passenger seat ;) Those don't really sound like family/group outings.

There's definitely a use for it, but very few buyers care about the back seats when it comes to $150K sports cars. The average 911 buyer age is 51. If that's true, it's hard to make the case that many buyers need space for kids.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Well, I guess we'll see by it's sales. Just like the F-Type.

Does the F type sell well? I suppose there must be many in the UK already, but elsewhere?

That means that half of all buyers are under 50...

The rear seats are important to me. 4 year old and another about to be born.

Not 100% correct, we don´t talk about median - just avarage! Just little bit math. Smiley

It could be (in math) that all buyers are 51 Smiley

That average was 42,  at the late 80s early 90s.

    KresoF1:

Official intro is on 9th September in Affalterbach, AMG HQ. 510ps is first version.

    Dear KresoF1,

510 PS is not too much to compete with supercars with about 600 hp. What will be the app. power of S version?

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

Sorry but I simply cannot get excited about this car as I wasn't by all previous AMG iterations of this car...

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

    Artur,

AMG GT is not aimed to compete with 991TS, 458 Italia, Huracan or 650S.

It will compete with cars in its price range-various versions of 991 Carrera S etc.

What previous iterations? SLS AMG was its only predecessor.

Smiley So many times, I wanted to opt for the GT3 (RS) but the first thing my wife always asked was: Does the car have back seats?  Smiley

However, the back seats aren't that important anymore since my kids grew older (and bigger) and my daughter refuses now to sit in the back of the 911 anymore. I get it, it isn't very comfortable and she really grew in length.

So my next sports car can be a two seater, this is pretty sure now.

If  it's priced against a carrera S in my market I would be interested. I thought it was more a Turbo competitor.

Like I said before, I doubt the AMG GT can compete against the 911 but I may be wrong. The future will tell...

I have seen a GT last friday in Stuttgart. I would say, from what I have seen, it will for sure compete with sports cars which are in a segment where you will find 911.

I agree but as far as I heard from various sources, AMG targets the 911 specifically and I'm not so sure they will succeed.

What do you mean by "compete"? In a sense they compete because they are both sportscars but in reality I don't think so.

The 911 is the default product in the sub-exotic class and it will remain so. However, some potential Porsche buyers will inevitably choose the AMG and some 911 owners who might feel like a change might be lured by the new Mercedes. Nothing cataclysmic, however.

Personally I'd go for the M4 rather than the Mercedes, if I wanted to move out of the 911.

Mercedes is a globally favoured brand and it will sell its new model well but OTOH I don't think that Porsche will suffer at all. And in a year or so there will be the 991.2 with an adequate set of improvements, I presume

As to the lust for figures (0-200, lap times on some circuits most global buyers haven't even heard of etc.) this is relevant to a very small proportion of consumers. They are just exaggerated by magazines and Forums, including ours.

A 911 with 430HP is faster than what 99% of buyers in the whole world are either willing or able to handle. I bet you that even in Germany  with the unlimited set of highways most Porsche drivers have never exceeded 200-230 km/h, and if they have only occasionally.

    Re: AMG GT Thread Closed

I may be wrong here, but would buyers really compare performance figures of an AMG GT vs. 911 as the main factor in their decision making ? I mean, from what I have seen on the internet, I would argue that the majority of buyers of an AMG GT will buy it on the looks. Perhaps I am too biased, but I do like the bodylines of a 911 or a Cayman and would not consider an AMG GT or an BMW Z4 (long front / short rear)...If Mercedes wants to "compete" with a 991, well, so be it - at least, I would not care...Smiley

    +1

I am trying to care, but f'k it... I just can't Smiley If it had been a mid-engined sleek design (like a more exciting R8) then it would be an option. From what I have seen so far it is yet another front-engined MB with a disproportional long engine hood. It looks wrong.
