    Porsche UK suck bigtime

This is quite long so bear with me.

I have a 997tt in cobalt bought new from a Porsche dealer in the Uk last september/october.The car developed a fault whereby the brake ad warnign light would come on in heavy rain.I took the car into my local Porsche garage and they replaced the sensors on the pads.Unfortunately this did not work,so I took the car back again. This time they replaced something in the dashboard, but yet again to no avail.Yet again i took the car in and they replaced something else...but again to no avail.
After consultation with Porsche Germany they advised me that they needed to replace the wiring loom which i was not happy about but agreed to so that the issue may finally be resolved.
After a few weeks I got a phone call telling me the loom had arrived and they could I book the car in.THis coincided with me going on holiday for a few weeks so I said fine i am away for 3 weeks make sure the job is done when I get back and booked the car in for July 13th.
Upon arriving back from holiday I ring them and find out the car is not ready as they inform me that only half the wiring loom turned up and that they fitted the first half so the car was undrivable ..not only that but they advised me that the rest of the loom would not be shipped until August 28th so i would not have the car until early September..not only that but they did not have a courtesy car available for me and was offered the service guys merceds c200 to use ( I am not a car snob..but I didn't pay Pounds100,000 to drive a merc c class).
I told them I was not happy and they advised me to speak to Porsche Uk customer services.Which I did...firstly Iw as told they (porsche uk) have no courtesy cars I could use as they only have press cars, and then they advised me that the parts had been delayed and i would not see my car now until mid september.
I explained to them that I was really really unhappy and had had a bad history with Porsche UK previously..(my 996 tt caught fire whilst sat in the garage nearly killing my family..Porsche Uk did nothing apart from say that the independant report which concluded that there was a design fault with the engine was incorrect..despite the fact that i know of at least 2 other people whose 996tt engines caught fire..anyway Porsche UK just didn't want to know as i had bought the car from a regualr dealer not a porsche dealer..since I got paid out by the insurerers I left it alone but was unhappy with Porsche attitude)
They explained that they understood that i was unhappy and wait for this ..offered me Pounds150 in porsche vouchers as compensation.I told them they were insulting me.
Now I have to decuide what to do..I think I might be able to reject the car..it has been off the road in the first year for 10-12 weeks ,I actually don't know what to do..I love the cars but cannot bear porsche customer service,I am either going to ask for some financial compensation or reject the car..unless porsche make some gesture to appease me,and to be honest I would never buy anothe rPorsche again (this is my 5th one) because no matter how good the car is if it goes wrong you dont get looked after.
If anyone reading this is a UK lawyer and knows wether I have any grounds to reject the car..it would be much appreciated.

Oh man, I really feel for you - what a nightmare!

Afraid, I can't really give you any useful advice or suggestions other than posting this on the Porsche Club GB forum where there may be someone there who has gone through a similar thing with Porsche GB.

However things unravel though I wish you luck...

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

In NY we have "lemon laws" that, among other things, protect the consumer where your car is out of service for 30 plus days in a year. Sorry, not familiar with UK lemon laws, but look for a firm specializing in "lemon laws".

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

If you follow thos board you know I am not a fan of Porsche the company and management. Yet I do believe in being fair and reasonable even with those we dislike.

I am sure Porsche is just as exorcised about what happened to you as you are. Unfortunately, based on your recitation of the facts, there is little they can do. The do not have loaner Porsche nor are they able to get the parts to fix your car as quickly as you like.

It seems to me that as long as you have transportation (granted it is not a Porsche but a MB isn't too shabby) what is the problem? What is it you want them to do?

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

Franki, sorry to hear what's been happening, that is seriously annoying.

Before you reject the car, you need to decide whether you feel strongly enough about the service you've received to actually part with the car and whether you have faith in Porsche to rectify the problem; if you believe Porsche can fix the car, do you really want to lose your Turbo simply because of irritation at the customer service people? I would certainly not get into previous problems with other cars when speaking to Porsche, it will just side-track your complaint about the 997; I would focus on the present problem.

Rejection is very fact-sensitive and you will obviously need a solicitor to consider the facts of your case (yawn, yawn). On the one hand, you've had the car for 1 year, which is a long time to have something before rejecting it; on the other hand, you've paid top whack for a car which you are entitled to expect to be pretty much perfect or, at least, to be rectified pronto in the event of any defect; and, you've been deprived of use of the car for 2.5-3 months. If you choose to reject the car, I suspect that the big question will be whether you have left it too long before telling Porsche that you are rejecting the car - the mere fact that you have let them try to fix it will most probably not affect your ability to reject (there is a case in the Court of Appeal on this point called Clegg v. Olle [2003] EWCA Civ 320). It is not clear from your post when the problem first manifested itself or whether you mentioned to Porsche at that point that you were considering rejection - these are the sorts of facts and questions that your solicitor will need to consider.

BTW and just out of curiosity, what did happen with your 996 TT?

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

Franki - I should have said that the UK does not have lemon laws; you will need a solicitor who does Sale of Goods Act cases.

You might try to Citizens Advice Bureau for a free opinion in the first instance if you don't want to go straight off to a solicitor. But, if you are serious about rejection, you should not delay in taking action ...

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

    Sounds ugly....

Would argue all mfrs have some rate of lemon cars and doubt P's rate is any better/worse than relevant comparables....

In US, thanks to both the rather competitive mkt and our uniquely aggressive/well-compensated lawyers, we have rather consumer-friendly auto "lemon" laws, where mfr needs to buy-back car/close out lease.....

And leased cars in US have further advantage of lease-gap cvg, so total collision/fire loss or theft is fairly irrelevant to lessee....insurance pays off lease....and one simply gets another $0-down, leased new car....

If UK doesn't have useful lemon laws, then I'd ask colleagues which major mfrs seem to differentially treat repeat custs better when warranty/lemon issues arise.....and calculate risk of such issues (which can occur w/any car) vs perf/safety/reliability/useability of cars being compared....e.g., some cars may offer better likely reliability (lots of mythology around reliability, as mfrs have closely-guarded warranty repair claims/cost data, but public data is statistically irrelevant/anecdotal) but entail more dubious active/passive safety....usual series of trade-offs to consider, w/little hard, quantitative data and many common-sense, qualitative comparisons....

If you wouldn't have mentioned it nobody would have noticed

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

This is a situation I would not want to be in at all! I would ask for some compensation - 150 quid is an insult! Maybe some Porsche design freebies.....

Not sure what Ferrari UK would do but in a similar situation Ferrari Japan would give you a lovely Alfa 147 or if you're lucky a 156 and that would be that. On one of the 360 recalls that needed doing Ferrari in Japan couldn't keep up and had to give customers Alfa's for up to 6 weeks!

A lot of people who own exotic cars in Japan only own one car so I am sure they would not be too pleased! But then I guess most F car drivers only drive to starbucks and back anyway keeping the annual mileage below 3 or 4,000 miles or so

    Re: Porsche UK suck bigtime

I think you are incensed because Porsche UK has not offered any suitable "tribute" to assuage your sense of outrage over the inconvenience and repair hell.

Unless you can find some mention in your contract with Porsche UK that they will provide equivalent value loaner cars, or any loaner car, there doesnt seem much more to do but to take the dealers goodwill C200 and suffer.

    Jesus,

What planet are you currently living on....?

This poor guy has paid Pounds100k for a high end sports car, it's not just 'transportation' as you say, i would guess it's not just been purchased to drop the kids to school etc....why do you own a Ferrari and not a Ford Focus ???????

He deserves a car of very similar performance and status while he is being so inconvenienced.

The fact that Porsche do not have cars like this sitting around is not his problem....i would be going straight to one of these high car rental companies myself, and be sending the bill to my OPC, i bet they'd find a TT in a hurry then !!!

    G.
