Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 RS

    Thanks!

Credible results... Prost findings similar to those of Horst von Saurma(of German Sport Auto)...

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

    fantastico!!!!!!!

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

SL seems a little bit larger to GT3 , i start to agree comments about comparing it to upcoming GT2

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

however gt3 is a king for agility and hard-bends

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

Thanks for posting mv, Superleggera is one hell of a car!

Prost found the RS difficult to drive even near its limit and its steering to be uncommunicative. I believe he felt the front end not as stable as one would like.

On the other hand, he thought another second could be dropped from the G SL track time!!!

Only in a few tight corners did the RS have an advantage.

While the 2+ second margin in track times was incredible and very dissappointing for the RS, it held its own during acceleration tests, considering its HP disadvantage.

IMO, a GT2 vs G SL would be the better comparison, especially considering price.

Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 RS

What I find very interesting is US owners of the 997GT3RS rave about the car. They claim the car is as grounded as any they have driven (although there is a very long thread on Rennlist discussing the understeer problems of the car) Yet, professional drivers and most car magazines don't find the RS that much more than the GT3.

Even more interesting is the car is selling for up to $50,000 over MSRP. I think there is considerable hype in the US on this car and none of it merited. The GT3 is more than enough car for 99.9% of the buying public.

IMO the RS should clearly outperform the GT3 on the track, but it doesn't. Porsche also appears to be building more examples than expected, hurting the RS's potential long-term value. I suppose those wanting a more exclusive 911, this is it, regardless of price.

Getting back to the test, Prost also felt the G SL to be a true GT, comfortable but very efficient and easy to drive at its limit.

For Prost, (driving) emotions aren't as important as (a car's) efficiencies (its capacity to be fast).

In either car, Prost felt the Sport button (PASM or Sport Mode?) to be unnecessary and slower.

He went on to say that the RS provided the sense of a true racing car, without the (proper) efficiencies.

The RS was also felt to have a split personality. On one hand it was emotional to drive and on the other, it required significant work (to drive fast).

IMO, the RS provides the visceral/exciting feeling of a race car but the Gallardo SL has raised the bar, while still offering a fairly comfortable platform with which to travel - even with one's wife/girlfriend.

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

nick i too think the RS may be overrated by some but it's all about perception which is normal..same with a spider vs coupe in f-cars in terms of market value in US

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

Lambo figured out how to make the SL a true track star and yet livable on the street.

This is a feat Porsche has become clueless about with the CGT, Turbo, and GT3.

How will they do with the GT2?

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

the set-up (camber & anti-roll bar) could be changed also in the superleggera as on gt3?

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

I read somewhere that the GT3 was set up from the factory to deliberately understeer to keep the relatively untrained buyers safe. However, the suspension is fully adjustable and the understeer can be dialed out for a more neutral or even tail happy set-up. Has anyone heard of people toying with their suspension settings?

YES! Long threads on 997GT3 board on rennlist.com

Seems as though serious tweeks are required on track (totally different alignment as well as full soft front swaybar and full firm rear swaybar). I think the best tweek will be the replacement of the PASM suspension with some nice aftermarket coilovers (Moton or similar)...

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

    I agree

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

    Interesting result btw.

F430 spider showed more solid performance than F430 coupe.

That was the test, results of which many refused to believe. Actually, more 599 tests result in arguments whether the car is a ringer (Motortrend, Car and Driver, Road and Track, AMS 2. test..) Well, the 599 press cars are said to deliver about 660hp. However, since a regular 599 puts out 640-650hp on RON98/100 (620hp on RON95), I can't really see the difference, especially since the customer's car has an opportunity to be broken-in properly.

The 599 used P-zero Heros. So no semi-slicks. But they helped, that's for sure.

    True.
BUT, new P Zero The Hero are truly awsome tires! On Audi R8 difference on Hockenheim between Hero's and Corsa's is only 0.1s(1.12,8min Hero's/1.12,7min Corsa's)!

In all recent test Hero's were far better then any current tire in the same class on the market...

    Re: QR 6/2007 : Gallardo Superleggera vs 997 GT3 R

Regarding 599 and CGT times - I read in an Italian forum, that after 2005 all the results are better, due to e different test driver...

Yes, they really are superb. Allegedly, a P-zero corsa evolution tires should come shortly taking all the improvements of p-zero heros to corsas. The F430 LP might get them.
