    Switching from reg. to sport steering wheel

    How much does it cost to switch from reg. to sport steering wheel? Is the airbag unit the same in both, or do you have to order a new airbag too?

    I switched from normal to sport in my Cayman and had to get a new airbag, so it was fairly expensive. There are a few different sport wheels, a regular one (vinyl), a leather one, a smooth leather one, and I think there's a thicker rim version too. Call the service dept. at the dealer and ask - I think one of the codes is XPA, but mention you want to find out the price on the different wheels, since there are a few of them. I think it cost me around $1500 installed for the soft leather version (and airbag), but I'm not sure, could have been less.

    they are always popping up on ebay, usually go for 300-500 with the airbag, the standard ones go for just alittle cheaper.
    install is quite simple, i have switched steering wheels more than 10 times.

    i ask my work shop to rebuild using my non-sports steering wheel from regular standard leather to Alcantara, i really love the feel and touch of it... makes the drive more enjoyable, i think you should do it but not making it too thick..

    Brandywine Porsche frequently has these bits and pieces for sale and on-sale. If I remember correctly I've seen alot of steering wheels for the 996 a few years ago when I was looking.
