    'Clear Bra'?

    I'm picking up our Cayenne S tommorow and driving off to the snowy wilds of Whister, BC. Actually not very wild; extremeley civilized, but snowy. Does anybody have any comments on the Cayenne's propensity to acquire rock chips in the front? Any comments on the 'clear bra' (i.e. 3M product) protection pro or con? My intial tendency is to not put a layer of plastic over part of my car. But I'm willing to listen to considered advice. Thanks.

    Salesman suggested it and gave me a brochure. 3M is a first class company.

    After some thought I decided to pass. I never feel quite at home in a new car until the first ding, chip, or scratch

    I believe EuroCarNut has one of those. I think he likes it.

    Personally, I say let the rocks come. If I had one of those and came across a bunch of Jeep guys on a trail, they would ridicucle me back onto the pavement.

    My Cayenne Turbo had the full 3M bra treatment applied, per my request, prior to delivery. It covers the front bumper, leading edges of the hood and front fenders, the headlights and fog lights, the mirrors and a rectangular section below the gas cap.

    It will soon also get the door handle cups and door edges.

    On the Titanium paint, the only visible evidence is that the material edge may be seen.

    As contrasted to a black bra, this is effortless. It is not cleaned, removed, cleaned some more, dryed then reinstalled each time the car is washed. Also, this is my wife's car and she does not like the appearance of a black bra.

    It is my understanding that after time and usage, the material will show impact signs that are not removed by polish. It is my plan to remove and replace the bra, at that time, to maintain the vehicle in new condition.

    The dealership I purchased by Cayenne from offers this product from Autobahnd, but I've seen it from XPEL Stonegard and Invinca-shield. It looks to be the same stuff, to me.

    I've done the same thing on my Titanium TT, although I skipped the hood section as I didn't like the 'line'. It's difficult to even find the lines of all the other sections. On my side mirrors I had them custom cut another, larger section for the bottom (matte finish) part, as that is where I typically see more 'wear'.

    I have not seen the gas-cap section; does that show up quite a bit? The door cups do not because of the natural contour change.

    Is the film delivered pre-cut in a customized (model-specific) kit, or do you need a real "artist" to cut the film directly on the car on every individual application?

    There are two vertical lines, starting at the bottom of the front and rear edge of the gas door, down around the fender lip, at the front and to the bumper seam, at the rear.

    As on the hood, this is not seen, except at the edge. But, I like the protection it offers at this area. There may be instances where I am not pumping the gas and this area now has protection.

    This appears to be a computer-controlled laser-cut product, that is then fit to the application. There may be trimming, as required.

    I'm familiar with the professional NC laser cutter OEM kits used by car manufacturers on the assembly line, but the only "after market" application I've seen so far looked like a "do-it-yourself" job, and didn't exactly compliment the GT2 it was on. I just wondered whether anybody out there is offering pre-cut "model specific" kits for a range of car models.

    The answer is yes you can get pre-cut kits so you dont have to worry about hand-cutting on your vehicle. Many times hand-cut jobs look poor because they try to make the material do more than it is able to do or they arent able to distribute the material effectively.

    Feel free to let me know if I can help with anything else being an installer of clear bra I know a few things about it.
