ADias:
I'm getting reports of excessive tailpipe soot on 997.2s, especially Carrera S.
Could new 997.2 owners comment? Also oil consumption. Please include in your replies current miles.

Soot yes! The brushed steel (as opposed to shiny chrome) finish of the pipes doesn't help cleaning either. I will fit the sport exhaust with the black pipes anyway, and soot will not show much.
Oil consumption is noticeable. 1.5+ litres in 3000 kms. The manual says that during running-in higher consumption will be experienced. However, they state up 1.5 lts/1000kms is normal! Perhaps if you spend hours at 6500rpm!
The OPC also says it will gradually go down. I remember that the turbos always have had this initial oil consumption.

Is this from oil or is it caused by fuel?
I ask this because the DFI engines in the RS Spyders were negatively effected by the fuel provided in the ALMS and asked the officials to increase the detergent level in order to overcome this problem.
BTW - One could see heavy "grey" soot marks on the RS Spyders after their first race ( before more detergent was added to the fuel)
