    Visual Healthcheck..?

    I went to an OPC yesterday (not my usual one) with a friend who was test-driving a 911. I tagged along just for a 'nose' really.

    Whilst there I was offered a free 'visual health check' on my car which I accepted. The printout shows the following faults...

    1) Number six coil pack cracked!

    2) Oil leak from bellhousing area/tensioner seal.

    3) Rear discs corroded/lipped on inner face.

    What's a number six coil pack? Is this oil leak serious?

    Should I get these things sorted urgently?

    Any suggestions would be gratefully received - thanks guys.

    Coil packs are the single ignition coil which attaches to each spark plug. After a while (normally around 4 years) they start to crack due to local heat from the exhausts - #6 is the most prone on 996s. they are about Pounds40 each from EuroCar Parts, a Bosch part. OPCs will charge you about Pounds150 fitted.

    I would guess in the next 2 years the remainign 5 will start to fail - in wet weather this normally manifests itself as rough running/idle and a CEL light on the dashboard.

    Rear brake inner faces are always a problem on little used cars , and especially those that don't have their brakes dried off after washing.


    I think most OPCs will do a free health check anytime FOc - its a way of getting soem potential business back in the workshops !

    "Bellhousing?" That's not the flywheel/clutch bell housing is it? Our dreaded RMS leak resides there.

    "Tensioner seal" probably for the belt (timing chain tensioner doesn't have a seal AFAIK). TS probably an "easy" fix since it just bolts on. Just guessing.
