    GIAC tuning for the 996TT- feedback needed

    I am considering the GIAC ECU upgrade for my stock 01 TT (996). I am not planning any other upgrade for the car. Any feedback is appreciated and will be considered before the upgrade decision.

    The basic "stage 1" tune...DVs, exhaust and Chip/flash is the best bang for the buck out there. You will be happy with GIAC (assuming you are just doing stage 1). Seeing 1.0-1.1 bar is nice!

    Thanks for the feedback Statmam. I am not planning anything for the exhaust. Is it still worth getting the ECU Stage 1 upgrade? TIA

    You will likely get 50-60 hp gains with just the ECU flash. Anything you do to improve air flow will ultimately make your flash more effective.

    I have read that due to the increased boost, the oil consumption will increase and that plugs will foul up more frequently because of mix. Are you experiencing any negatives worth mentioning? TIA

    I had GIAC's 600HP program from 2005-6, last winter I moved up to GIAC's GT700 program and changed the plugs as part of the upgrade. No issues so far.

    Zero negatives.

    My oil consumption has stayed right on what the pre-GIAC rate was.

    I changed my plugs when I did the upgrade, and haven't had any problems with them ...now with over 13,000 miles on that set.

    Had the GIAC Stage 1 install done by Autometrics. Nice results. Noticed more aggresive/stronger acceleration and higher/quicker Boosts. GIAC claims 475+ hp and 500+ Tq for the 996tt. Nice upgrade!

    thanks but let me get used to the new "shot in the arm" first. Maybe next year we will move onto a new upgrade. The GIAC upgrade is amazing!

    I agree!

    The great thing about an exhaust upgrade is it allows the Turbo to sound like a real sports car. The OEM unit is pretty weak sounding. If you get a better sounding exhaust, it will complete the package with your new power. Plus, if you go with 70mm pipes, the throttle response is also improved.

    Feedback-- now that I have had a chance to drive the car, here is my impression of the GIAC Stage 1 ECU upgrade: AWESOME! Why didn't I do this earlier! I have much faster turbo spooling/response. Before the normal boost was to 0.7 BAR, now I easily get to 1.1 in gears 3-4-5. Thanks for the pre-upgrade feedback; it was right on the money.
