    North American GT3RS

    I'm confused.

I was jus reading Excellence (Feb 2007), and Andreas Preuninger (project manager) is quoted as follows:" In the US, we had certain legislative burdens to homologate the car . . . it is not legal for us to equip the car with the roll cage, plastic rear window, or the lightweight seats. But you can order them through Porsche spare parts. You can even get the single mass flywheel for the US! The flywheel saves 18 lbs of rotating mass and makes the engines rev more quickly."

The article goes on to say that for the US at least, the real difference offered by the RS is the lack of a sunroof. (So to get a GT3 without a sunroof we have to pay an extra 17G!!) The other goodies offered on the RS are the wider hips, unique paint options (which you can special order anyways), and rear spoiler.

Is that true? The extra 17,000 clams in the US simply buys you the cosmetic stuff and ditches the sunroof, all of which you could buy for you GT3 (except the wider hips and sunroof delete) anyways??

WHAT A WASTE! THE US GT3 RS IS JUST A GT3 IN A CLOWN SUIT

    Re: North American GT3RS

The RS has split wishbone suspension for more extreme alignment setups and the US car will get the light flywheel, despite those comments, afaik. Still a hefty premium for what you get (or don't get)...

    Re: North American GT3RS

You forgot the larger gas tank on the Euro model, I believe.
I see little reason the get the RS other than resale value and that may be enough.

I can imagine that resale would be better too, but this is not going to be a 73 RS one day. The 73 RS is so special because it was an incredible driving experience that differed from everything else available and was quite rare. The GT3 already is basically the same driving experience as the GT3RS (art least in America), and the GT3RS is not going to be rare by production standards.

If money was no object, of course I'd get a GT3RS, but since it is, I'd be quite happy to get a GT3 with PCCB and add the single mass fly wheel, roll cage, and seats, and what a machine I'd have!

I honestly think that the American GT3RS is a joke and that Porsche has some nerve not offering sunroof delete on the GT3 and also in offering the North American GT3RS with as little extra as it does. It's a disgrace.

    Re: North American GT3RS

A guy priced out his RS slot and it came to $150kUS+ (with PCCB, etc)!!!! You will never get your money back out of a $150k+ 911 GT3 IMO, after this initial demand shortage dissipates. The rarity will be easily offset by the crazy price, IMO. People just aren't used to paying that kind of money for an NA 911.

    Re: North American GT3RS

Widebody 911's are almost universally more sought after and hold higher resale values. Look at any historical point in time when Porsche made widebody models. It's a joke, I agree about the price differential. But then add the unique rear spoiler, single mass fly, thinner rear glass and yes history will repeat itself. This model will hold it's value better despite the joke of a markup. And I'll still happily buy one.

Good point about the wide body, but sheesh, 17000 clams . . .

How are you so sure that the single mass flywheel will be available from the factory in the US? And the "thinner" glass? Where does that come from?

My quotes come from Excellence magazine talking to the Porsche Project Manager for the GT3 and GT3RS, Preuninger himself, and he basically says that the best reason to get the RS in NA is sunroof delete!

AHHHHHH! This makes me go crazy every time I think about it.

    Re: North American GT3RS

Porsche is downplaying the RS for America because they are only going to build 229 for the USA. Just enoughf for the RSR and to avoid crash testing on the car. NO 2008 RS

    Re: North American GT3RS

RS will have thin glass and flywheel per us order guide
    it was posted on rennlist

only thing missing from ROW is seats and rollbar and lexan(vs thin glass)..enability to bring these these is exactly why gt3 has sunroof otherwise no 44lbs weight reduction!

porsche WILL make 08 and maybe 09 cars IMO no way not since 998 will not be out untill 2010 if not 11..they want to make money

    Re: North American GT3RS

If you're really worried about the $17K difference... than you're probably not one of the lucky 229...
