    How long for your delivery?

Only for the statistic; my C4S ordered on 01/20 and delivery 06/08

Re: How long for your delivery?

Reading the forum is very enlightening in different ways. But I am really starting to understand the vast difference in the marketplaces between Europe and North America. Here, quite a few people order cars, but most purchase vehicles out of the dealer's stock inventory. I do not think many of them post on this forum, thought, because one could argue about their passion for the brand.

That is, most find a car that comes close that they like and they take it home. Forget ordering the car and waiting 5-6 months for it. Take, for example, my dealer, who by his website has 55 911 variants available right now!

    Different markets.

Re: How long for your delivery?

As Porsche becomes more mainstream, they inventory and market cars as do other mainstream companies like GM, Toyota and Ford. They sell a considerable number of cars to dealerships and tend to discourage special orders by giving long build and delivery dates.

It is cheaper, faster and lends itself to increasing sales and profits.

Re: How long for your delivery?

Yes and no. In the U.S. Porsche has to have cars on ground in order to satisfy the instant gratification our market demands. If I talk to my dealer today and he has an open allocation for April build, I can change that car to my specs and have it by the end of May, so only three months from order to delivery.

In Europe, it seems that the dealer body does not need to order cars for inventory, nor does Porsche expect it to.

Re: How long for your delivery?

I think the time it takes for ships to cross the Atlantic is a major factor. Delivery from the factory to the dealer doesn't take that long in Europe so I assume in Europe we don't need to have so many vehicles 'pre-ordered' as it were.

I am now able to quote more accurately the times involved in mine.

1st Feb car not on system at Porsche
10th Feb car listed as built
    14th Feb car hits UK
20th Feb (today) car hits the OPC.

Once they pull their fingers out they seem pretty quick!

And there was me bitching away that they weren't going to hit March 1. Phew!

Re: How long for your delivery?

Another factor may be that in the U.S. we buy from a dealer, who buys from Porsche NA, who buys from Porsche AG. So doesn't this give us yet another middleman to contend with?

madadd, when did you actually place the order with your dealer?

Re: How long for your delivery?

Europeans generally order cars and await them for months and months,--as compared to the instant gratification mentality in America.

All markets have their local importer and regional dealers selling to "end-users", so the situation is no different in the USA in that respect.

I placed the order November 2004. Yes not a typo. 15 months ago. Had a bought from a big city dealer I could have reduced the wait by half. But I live in a quiet outback area where we sleep with our sisters and get over familiar with out household pets! And our local OPC's are small and have tiny allocations.

But the wait is almost over. 15 Months flys when you're having fun...

    lol Very amusing.

Re: How long for your delivery?

15 months ago?! Here's to you for hanging in there!

Re: How long for your delivery?

I hope they are still charging the original price you agreed to pay without an increase for the newer model year.

Re: How long for your delivery?

For the UK market, all cars are transported by Porsche AG to the Reading HQ of Porsche Cars Great Britain which is the official importer for the UK. PCGB then transports all new cars to each UK OPC.

Ordered my car 8/27/05 and was driving it on 10/29/05.

Like to try that with an F430

    Porsche flexibilty

Porsche basically learned how to do flexible manufacturing and become very succesful at it. What that means is they can very quickly fulfill just about any configuration you want with two exceptions paint and leather to sample. This means you get a car that's your choice and you get it quickly if you take out indiudual countries allocation system which will give you a false picture.

If you peel away that allocation part, you're looking at about a 6 week process from order going in, parts being delivered, to car coming out of the factory.

You pay but it's not half as bad as it would be with cottage industry companies like Ferrari who can't handle the speed and complexity of individual orders in the way that Porsche can.
