I think you are forgetting that he used to have a Bentley Arnage, which the Phantom is replacing. Actually Mike's car buying habit is very very similar to a friend here. Here some of the example of his recent cars: F430, Murcielago, Arnage, Continental GT, SL65, 911 Turbo, Golf R32, Gallardo Spyder, various X5, 7 series and S-class...maybe Mike is his twin?

Possibly. However, the Bentley was "IMO" a far better looking car.

    Hi Res,

I understand where you coming from, but there is nothing else at the moment I can "invest" in I'm not marque loyal, so I do not see myself buying from the same marque unless is it something spectacular. The Phantom is a different experience all together, the salesman locked the entire showroom so I can go through all the cars in private which was quite nice Life is short, I like to experience as much as I can, regardless if it ends up being a mistake

Anyways, have you sat in an Arnage T vs a Phantom? The Phantom's quality of interior is just leaps and bounds ahead of the Arnage IMO.

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Are you going to hire a driver to chauffeur you around in that thing? Or are you planning to drive it yourself?

To be fair, no I have not sat in the Bentley but have sat in the Phantom and can totally understand the quality difference, after all it's a Rolls.

But hey, enjoy the car as I know you will. HEy another question, will it fit in one of your garages?

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

I really thought you were going to order a vantage roadster and forget about the Rolls.

Congrats my friend. White is the way to go for a Rolls. I just hope you didn't trade a sports car in to get it.

Whn I think that you could have gotten a second hand carrera GT for the price ... come to think of it, I think you said you could not drive it in SA because it's left hahd drive only.

    Anyway, Congrats again.

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Mike are u start a challenge with Jay Leno!!!

    Congrats my crazy friend !!!

Thanks! Yes the that was the main purpose of the loan car I had. To see if it fits It JUST makes it, I'll post a pic later to show you how close! I need to be about 2-3 inches from the wall

Thanks amazon, don't worry I'm not trading anything in! I think I will wait for 08 for the Vantage Roadster. No sense having 2 arrive at the same time.

Congrats, its really an awesome car

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Congratulations Mike, I knew you had to have that car

It's all about the experience of having the absolute BEST the world can offer

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Mike, you're a cool guy - I always respect people who take the attitude that you only live once and should enjoy life..

Out of interest, somewhat OT but what other interests do you have aside from cars..you are obviously a man with taste..

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

would mike consider a veyron next?
btw, lovely phantom. love the white! ^^

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Come on man, buy that Veyron!!!!! Pleeeease!!! Well done!!!

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Why do we glorify injustice and excessive consumption in a continent and world ravaged by poverty and disease? Are we so completely disconnected from the web of life?

Consider a world where personal wealth was limited to one or two million euro. A world in which the rich had to make do with just one or two expensive toys. A world where poverty and injustice did not exist.

In that world there would be no cars like Veyron or indeed even the likes of 911 turbo. I am curious, what do you drive AUM?

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

No one would be pushing the enveloppe in that world. Even France is taking a more liberal turn, trying to bring back the rich...

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Recent research confirms that altruism is pleasurable. http://www.physorg.com/news99581802.html

The richest man in the world, Bill Gates, is gravitating from business to philanthropy.

Extreme excess in the face of poverty is obscene. The very rich would feel much happier if they limited their consumption and shared their wealth with the poorest people. Those who are driven to succeed and make lots of money can still enjoy a high standard of living without plundering the planet.

I am a motorsport enthusiast with a passion for fast cars. I have mostly owned Porsches and BMWs (such as the 911 Turbo and M3 CSL) that are capable of fast Ring times (I track at the Nordschleife five times a week), are practical and cost less than 150,000 euro. I usually own only one car at a time.

I would love to have a blast in a Veyron and other extreme exotics. On Planet AUM, extremely expensive exotics would be made available for timeshare ownership, so we could all have access to supercars on occasion without having to buy them.

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

    Wow, where to start!

No research can prove altruism is pleasurable for all people.. That it is for some is obvious. Also, the article does not say anything about how the experiment was conducted, if they simply asked I can't allow myself take it serious.

Which means he follows in the footsteps of aprox 90% of all other really rich people before him: Make money --> Spend money on self --> Donate money.

Wow, those very rich must be very happy to have you thinking for them, given that they have either made or managed to keep their wealth they must surely be in need of some outside help

And what do you think would happen to the price/availability of supercars when buyers are reduced by that much? It is available today, yet not threatening the reliance on real buyers anytime soon.

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

We are glorifying Mikes purchases because we know him personally, we wouldn't exactly respond negatively, it would destroy the spirit of this forum and what would be the point? But whenever the general public hear about the excessive consumption and compensation of CEOs the response isn't so encouraging.

I actually find that insulting and rude, criticizing how people should be spending their money. I do not see any injustice in what I'm doing. What would be the point of working so hard if I could not spoil myself every once in a while? I wasn't always in such a position and you have not heard the hard times that was endured to get here. Who is to say that I do not already do my bit in contributing to charity? I for one would never be in any position to make comments like these no matter how much I know of the individual concerned.

Mike just ignore him he is not worth it.As far that you work for your money, you can spend it on whatever you like. I smell a hint of envy / frustration in AUM's tone, look at it this way you will always find people like that in this world. Final word, enjoy your cars !

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

My comments are not directed at any individual but at the prevailing economic reality in which excessive wealth and extreme poverty are considered to be normal and acceptable. My comments point towards an alternative economic system in which extreme individual wealth is limited and in which extreme poverty does not exist.

You are definitely in the wrong forum then. Guys please point him in the right direction !

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

If you truly believe in this you would not be buying cars like 911 turbo or M3CSL. Heck, maybe you would like the whole world to turn into a big communist community?

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Limiting excessive personal wealth and eliminating extreme poverty does no mean we cannot enjoy motorsports. With a personal wealth limit of two million euros we could still enjoy most of the best sports cars. And we would also benefit from living in a more just and therefore more stable and secure world.

Why would you want the smartest people to retire already in their twenties? If you limit personal wealth you would either have to force entrepreneurs to sell of their companies early or don't allow them to trade their stocks at all to realize the value of them. And not allow them to use it or sell them if they go bankrupt and owe people money as they would then go bankrupt all the time. And if no one can own more than one or two million, who would get the values already existing that they now own?

I don't even think your idea would do any good in a theoretical world, far less if you believe it to be implemented in todays real world.

And lastly, why would limiting "excessive personal wealth" help eliminate extreme poverty in the long run?

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Mike, I apologise for having this thread slip by me w/o taking notice.. Congratulations buddy!

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Congrats Mike! For the price that they're charging you for the Phantom... don't you think they should've put the steering wheel on the correct side?

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

Limiting personal wealth and transferring much of the resources of the super rich to the poorest people will never be acceptable to the tiny minority who own and control most of the world's resources - unless some dramatic and unexpected event makes such a radical change inevitable.

I am a spiritual teacher (not an economist or businessman) who has a vision of a new civilization based on justice and non-violence. Vision precedes practicalities.

The structure and detail of the new economy (and the transition to it from the present system) will be created by experts based on principles of justice and efficiency. Captalism is efficient, but it is not just or fair. Communism was a total failure (it is neither just nor efficient). There is a third way forward.

The motivation for entrepreneurs to succeed beyond their personal wealth limit will be the prestige and status that comes from being of service to others less fortunate. And the satisfaction of making the world a better, safer and more just place for ourselves and our children. There can be no long-term global security without social and economic justice.

Re: Oops I did it again.... ordered a Phantom

    Congrats, Mike! Gorgeous!

    AUM, please stay on topic.
