    Re: 997S Delayed

It depends what you consider "comparable". The tiptronic is represented as shifting faster than the 545 smg, but it is a very smooth shift by virtue of the fact it uses the torque converter. It is a different feel. The bmw smg transmission feels like a manual during shifts since it utilizes a clutch, albeit a clutch operated by the computer. The tiptronic, on the other hand, feels much more like an automatic during shifts b/c of its smoothness, but you control the shifts. Some may feel this takes away from the driving experience. I drove both a manual and a triptronic 997s and was much happier with the tiptronic. That is just my opinion. The knock on the smg is that it is too "jerky" for some. It is not as smooth as the tiptronic, but it is not "jerky" in my opinion. The triptronic offers the same benefits of the smg without subjecting itself to the criticisms of the smg.

    Re: 997S Delayed

The tone of your post scarcely merits a response. All I will say is this:

You quoted the JD Power survey which is only based on the first 90 days of ownership. If we were all going to own our cars for just 90 days then that survey would doubtless give us all peace of mind. However, problems on the 996 (whose engine is used in the standard 997) e.g. RMS leaks, blown engines etc usually occur after this initial 90 day period. In the UK, Porsche refuses to fix RMS leaks at no cost which I understand they do for US customers.

There's no point in being rude or aggressive just because you have placed an order for a car and don't want to believe it could be less reliable than others. See if your own car really turns out to be reliable before you start defending it.

Other people aren't as foolish as you might think.

Easy_Rider - ARE YOU BLIND ? And from now on could you please post FACTS ??? "Porsche not as reliable as others" ??? Could you please explain what you are basing this on ??? Because if it's based on internet posts, I don't want to hear it !!

What does "usually" mean ? Where did you get this figure about RMS leaks and blown engines. PLEASE post the stats you're talking about. Oh wait, you just made them up in your head - so you can't.

I'm not worried at all - Had a 996 for 4 years - no problems. The 997 has something called a "warranty" and also Porsche has a very high JD powers rating. But my guess is that after 90 days it'll probably break down into heaping pile of junk. My OTHER guess is that JD Powers knows what the hell they are talking about more than a bunch of Porsche Board WORRY WORTS !!!

You also forget to check these out..... You sure don't seem to let facts get in the way of you posting your judgemnet of reliability. I'm sure basing reliability impressions from a few internet posts is better than looking at a STUDY done by JD POWERS.....???????

But hey - if you are SOOOO damn worried then just DON'T BUY THE CAR. But PLEASE stop posting the gibberish that is not backed up by something called "facts"

    Re: 997S Delayed

And you are right my posts have been a little rude lately - but I am SOOO tired of people just posting BS here !!! LOOK INTO something before you spout off. It GREATLY takes away from the usefullness of the board for people just to post stuff that is in NO WAY backed up by facts.

For my rude tone - I apologize, but for my point, I will not.

    Re: 997S Delayed

I owned many many cars up til now and my Porsche cars proved to be the most reliable from all, with the single exception of my wife's SLK 32 AMG whic has now 12000 km and seems to be absolutely flawless, not even a little problem.

Porsche cars unreliable? In Germany, people actually use them as a daily driver, even in winter time, because they ARE reliable.

There is so much BS on the internet, especially because most forums aren't moderated and everybody can talk what he wants, no matter if true or not. And even if a forum is moderated, moderators are very often kids or people who don't own a Porsche, lacking the experience of ownership and therefore the information isn't too accurate and they usually don't get involved too much in disputes or posts because they wouldn't know what to say.

    Re: 997S Delayed

    Thanks RonH,
I'll sort out a test drive in a tiptronic, although I might be a little on the late side for an order change.
