Battery Maintainer - CTEK MXS 5.0

I bought a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery maintainer a few months ago. It's been one of the best purchases I have ever made for my car. It's just amazing - I cannot recommend it highly enough. I got it for about £50 from Amazon UK.

The OEM Porsche Charge-O-Mat II is made for Porsche by CTEK but it's a really old model with far fewer modes and steps. The MXS 5.0 has a 8 step process and it's just a more recent model.

The Porsche item costs £85 in the UK so, as usual, it's a more expensive item that does less :(

It has a cigarette lighter connection which is fine if you have your own garage. With a cigarette lighter connection, you need to send the wire through a slightly open window into the car.

The model I have has crocodile clamps so I connect them directly to the battery. My charger sits inside the front boot and I plug it into an extension lead which also sits inside my front boot. The extension cable then comes out of the front boot from the end closest to the windscreen wipers. That way, I can lock the car fully - which is important for me since my car stays in an underground car park (not in my own garage).

Agreed, sir! Those CTEK battery maintainers are great products! Smiley

One small suggestion -- you might like to look at getting a "CTEK Comfort Indicator with Eyelet Adaptors"...

With these "eyelet" connectors, you can have them permanently connected to the battery contacts and have the connector/indicator end threaded through to the front boot. Therefore you don't have to open the panel to the battery each time you connect to the charger. This connector also has an indicator light that gives you an idea (green / yellow / red) how much charge the battery has at all times.

I would recommend considering it as a useful add-on for any CTEK battery charger! Smiley

I have also four CTEKs in our garage in winter-use,  they work perfectly !! Smiley

I use the OEM Porsche trickle charger for my GT3 as it;s a weekend car and my battery died after a  1 month holiday, silly me.....

it cost ~175 AUD from the dealer.

I too looked at the CTEK one, tho cheaper and better featured, i found it much more convenient with the cigs lighter plug.  its a hassle to open the bonnet, take off the battery cover, and clamp the terminals every week.

since I drive the GT3 every weekend (well, as much as I can!), all i do is unlock the car, unplug it, chuck it on the garage floor, and off I go. very convenient.

and if my battery stuffs up cos of a fault with the trickle charger, I can blame Porsche. kiss
