BITBURG, Germany, July 12 (UPI) -- A German pilot could face charges for
successfully landing his small aircraft on the roof of a Porsche speeding at
100 mph on an old landing strip.
The 12 members of the Bitburg Porsche racing club were putting their sports
cars through their paces on a former U.S. air base Wednesday when the pilot
made his surprise appearance, Deutsche Welle reports.
The driver told police he tried, but could not outrun the plane, and was so
shocked when the plane landed on his roof he slammed on the brakes, sending the
plane toppling forward onto the runway.
"It was a miracle that no one was hurt," said Klaus Schnarrbach, spokesman for
the Bitburg police. "They probably couldn't have done it that well if they had
tried."
Damage to both car and aircraft was substantial, and a charge of negligence was
being considered for the pilot.
