    Type 132 electric SUV

With all the interest on this board around SUV's and electric cars I thought there might be interest in a post I read on a Lotus forum from someone who has seen a preview of the forthcoming Type 132 electric SUV in Shanghai along with some teaser photo's the guests were given and a sketch he made of the car.

"As I promised here I am to share my experience of the Type132 preview event here in Shanghai. It’s pretty late already so I’ll be quite brief at this moment but I’ll happily answer any questions you guys have later.

    In one word, “wow”.

It’s everything I had expected but dialled to 11. It’s awesome even a bit mad and excessive. Just throw out some numbers: 0-100(0-60 for miles) under 3 seconds. 800v electric motors (similar to Taycan) putting out 1000 horsepower. 4 LiDAR sensors all actively deployed (so they sit flush when not in use). Active aero front and back with some 110kg and 80kg downforce front & rear. Carbon and exotic materials everywhere even forged carbon on centre console. 21 inch rims and even 23s in carbon being developed. Range is yet to be disclosed but “adequate”. You get the idea. This is a near 5 meter long 2 meter wide behemoth super suv.

Look wise all I can say it’s the Lamborghini Urus we never had. To me Urus is a missed opportunity and Type132 is every bit more impressive and shows how it should be done. Of course our phone cameras were disabled so no spy shot here. But they have some poster cards showing some detail and I’ll post here

Interior is similarly exciting with concept car like design and exotic materials plus some gimmicky night club lighting. It seats 4 or 5 depending on option and in 4 seat configuration the back seats are aggressive bucket seats looking stuff.
They say price wise it competes with electric Cayennes coming in the future. I must confess I’m not the target buyer of these kinds of crazy super electric SUV’s, but it is indeed a bold looking package and I really hope it succeeds."

It reminds me to the former gentlemen @ Lotus who also had all these lined up visions burning a ton of cash and never materialize.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

looks like a Lambo (URUS) from the front and like an Audi from the rear.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

    Well, it's very weird.

Smiley Many EVs are just plain ugly. The designers try a more futuristic look but often fail miserably, just for the purpose to look "different". The "best" good looking low budget EV right now is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in my opinion. Very special but not too futuristic look (could be more of a Volkswagen though Smiley) and you recognize it immediately.

The rear is cool. I suspect this looks a lot better in person, there's a lot of ins and outs that pictures just can't convey.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

    The profile screams Nissan.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

Huge car with a tiny boot...

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

So, this car represents everything that Lotus was not and prior to driving it (and even seeing it), I think I'll not like it. However, I really wish it will sell well because Lotus put a lot of effort into this car and it looks different from what we usually see on the road!

And when you think about it, for "normal" people (not petrolheads), how cool would it be to drive an electric SUV with a Lotus badge on it!!! Even if, at first glance, I don't like the car, I love this idea!

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

Not sure how much effort Lotus literally put into it versus the goals of the company’s CCP overlords.  Since this anchor is will be produced in Wuhan, China the intended markets are not the EU but China and potentially the West Coast of the United States.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

I can easily imagine this vehicle doing exceedingly well on the West Coast of the US.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to purchase one even with the Lotus badge

    It’s a lotus Mustang.

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

Lotus will have to put up a lot of marketing effort to get people to the Lotus brand not to buy a light-weight-sports car but a SUV ... my respect to all peolpe involved at Lotus trying ...

    Re: Type 132 electric SUV

I have questions about the reliability of this car compounded by the fact of the low after sale infrastructure of Lotus. Over thing is this issue in a weekend sportscar used as a third or fourth car, another is a daily SUV.
