    Trek to Gmünd

Of course, you can't do a Euro delivery and NOT go to Gmünd...

Lost in Northern Italy,--and then the GPS kicked in! (Don't do a Euro Delivery without the Nav!)

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

Wow Dan, the scenery is awesome! I love austria and Switzerland for sceneries like these...

..and more of Italy, just shy of Switzerland.

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

DAn, your photos are great!! And your car looks so good in that scenery. Thanks

Dan: How was your ride over those cobblestone streets/roads?

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

Love the pics. It must be a blast to drive there.

Sweet! Great place to temporarily get lost in.

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

You do NOT want to have to drive over cobblestones for any length of time with 19 inch rims and 30 series tires! It's quite harsh. That was with the sport suspension dampened.

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

Now that was the picture I was waiting for...Gmund is no doubt the historically significant part of your trip with regards to Porsche's history. Beautiful pictures...of course, Santa Barbara is not bad either...used to live there for a few years when I was a kid.

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

I was close to Gmünd but didn't get a chance to go there. I ended up getting sidetracked somewhere in Italy before heading up North to Stuttgart. There are some stunning roads between Germany and Italy by way of Switzerland. My GPS briefly re-routed me on some back roads that ended up being a driver's heaven full of tight hairpin corners! Too bad I was driving a severely underpowered rental at the time.

    Re: Trek to Gmünd

If I haven't convinced you Rennteamers to do a tourist delivery I'm not doing my job! Friends of mine warned me about driving in Italy with all the Italian drivers (not true) and other such cautions. It was a blast to have a capable car. I drove the Amalfi and Positano Coast with the Cab and that is the car to use on those roads. No tour bus is TOO big or TOO large to get around quickly with a Carrera. Italians LOVE sports cars so it's a popular car for them,--it doesn't have to be the OTHER sports car (you know,--the F-word).

I just used a little common sense with where I parked and enjoyed the autobahns and autostratas immensely. European drivers would move over for you,--unlike California!

Gmünd has a small Porsche museum (not affiliated with Porsche AG) which has some interesting cars in it (among them a 550 spyder). Within 2-3 kms is the old sawmill where I shot the first shot.

    European Delivery

    Dan,

I love your pictures but remain a European Delivery skeptic. Off the top of my head, its something like $2500. For that I could easily upgrade from a mid range rental to a 911 for about 10 days. I would have an already broken-in Porsche, scratches and the like wouldn't be on my car and when I got my car it would still be shrink wrapped, ready for an obsessive detailing or clear bra installation.

I picked up my Volvo European Delivery. Volvo seems to have a much better option. Non-negotiable 8% of MSRP, free airfare for two, free night in hotel, free insurance for 30 days, free factory tour. Given the tax savings, I would have expected a deal on a Porsche not a surcharge. (My dealer jokes the premium is to cover insurance on Texans who crash their new toy on the autobahn <--flame away here.)

From an emotional point I understand the delivery option, but from a financial point, I'm lost.

"From an emotional point I understand the delivery option, but from a financial point, I'm lost."

Any financial analysis vis-a-vis a Porsche is always going to come up short.
