    Are the air cooled turbos more butch!

    This weekend I was at a Porsche happening at the Copenhagen Dealer.

    Some of the customers brought along their "vintage" turbos.

    Some of the 964 turbos were absolutely stunning. There was a refurbished

    one in black (BAD BOYS ) that stole the show. It looked like a pitbull ready to go for your jugular.

    A very aggressive looking car.!!!

    As an owner of a 997 TT, I was really impressed by the cars looks.

    Porsches age in grace, better then other car brands these cars are timeless masterpieces.

    Nothing can be scarier in OEM form than a 930 or 965. Once the 993 came along so did a lot of technology which, although one hell of a car, refined the Turbo.

    Hey, IMO, the aircooled engines (turbo or NA) _ARE_ the most exciting (and "butch?") soundwise.

    I MUST open my side window every time an AC 911 is about to pass me. If they are well-tuned (no valvetrain noise) it's absolute Heaven!

    Of course the CGT blows everything out of the water soundwise.

    I agree 100%, the sound of the old air cooled 911 was so distinctive, I could tell from a mile away a 911 was approaching. An aggressive sound and yet very pleasing. Sort of like a dog on a leash ready to jump

    I had a 1989 930, somewhat modified, that I finally sold after 17 years to get my 997TT. With the cat removed and a larger turbo, headers but stock muffler, that car sounded absolutely incredible. My new car sounds more like a Hoover (or Dyson?) but is certainly quicker, faster, more sure-footed and has heated seats . But for fast/mean car looks and persona, the 930 tops the Porsche list IMO.

    I bought a used 1997 993TT last summer and in complete stock form, the air-cooled turbo had that "woosh" sound the water-cooled 996/997 don't have. And with stock (400HP) power, I could screetch the tires (even the 295's on my 996TTS rims I put on her) on the summer pavement in second gear. The 993TT stock versus my 996TSCab stock felt more lively, as well, which I ascribe to the smaller wheelbase of the 993TT vs. 996TT. Of course I am now well beyond stock in my 996TT (about 675HP on 93 octane and 700HP on 100 octane) and it's alot louder too. But her jealous sister, my 993TT is "catching up" to her-due back from tuning in March with 650-ish HP out of a 3.8L conversion. Probably also a little louder with a "freer" flowing exhaust, but still air-cooled at heart.

    My grandpa had a 930 all tuned up for more power, it was wild. He sold it because his exact description was that it was like a rotweiler on a short chain, ready to snap any second. I loved it!!!!
