    Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

Here's a recent video from donington national circuit
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7BHy9C9AkA

Still breaking in the engine so under 5k......but i have to say that for a car that can stroll around town at 20mph comfortably and cruise the autobahn at speeds approaching 225mph with utter stability and cohesion, this car has incredible agility and taught handling characteristics on track despite the suspension settings having a clear bias towards high speed road driving, the steering feel and weight is perfection (standard 997 C2/GT3 steering rack) the ruf short throw crisp as u like, the brakes awesome, the rear end width enables you to carry serious speeds through sweeping corners but the only thing that let's it down are the "continental sport contact 2 vmax" tyres which offer very limited grip when warm, let alone cold, due to their extremely hard compound designed of course to dissipate heat thus avoiding high speed blowouts. Also the weight (circa 1475kgs) isn't ideal for the tighter corners but nevertheless she's no slouch

    Nirvana it is my friend

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

Great pics - beautiful car. What size wheels and tires are you running?

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

Ah..my current favourite car! Enjoy her and keep up the reports..

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

nice car!! Thanks for posting the great video, nice oversteer you had

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

    Amazing nirvana!! Congrats.

I also noticed the decent performance of the Lotus at the corners. Guess you weren't pushing her too hard due to your breaking in.

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

very nice...now ditch the continental whatevers for a proper set of tires more appropriate to this car

    Re: Ruf RT12 driving nirvana

    Hello,
I am looking to upgrading my 997S to a Ruf Compressor model with the relevant suspension and brake adjustments. I do about 3-4 track days a year. Could you rate your suspensions and brakes?

As we just discussed, another option is to get a turbo and chip it! You'll love it.

The suspension is very capable on track, perhaps a little more negative camber for all 4 wheels if you were to do more track driving than street (mainly only affects very high speed street driving) but it is a perfect compromise for street/track use the anti-roll bars are hugely capable and the shocks have very good travel and a nice progressive spring rate. Don't forget that critically this setup performs so well due to the 25pct extra torsional rigidity offered by the IRC (integrated roll cage) which acts more as a chassis stiffener than a typical FIA roll cage thus minimising chassis flex going through corners in particular where this enables the suspension geometry to be unaltered, the result is awesome and truly i would reccommend this to anyone before suspension modifications. The brakes again are more than up to the task, front discs are 380mm drilled and grooved with 8 piston stoppers, only upgrade i would reccommend are harder pads for track use but of course they will screach when cold which the stock ones don't. They generate immense stopping power and have a very sweet progressive bite for brake modulating.

    hope this helps,
    all the best
