    997 Convertible Ski Rack

    Has anyone found a simple to install ski rack for the 997 Convertible? I always loved the look of the vintage racks but I guess that won't work with today's safety regulations let alone the spoiler

    Thanks for any recommendation!

    Just guessing, but perhaps you must put the cab's hardtop on use a ski rack.

    IOW, in an "Excellent" world you'd be going skiing with your cab's hardtop installed, right?

    Ask Rami. When he still had his boxster, he had a roofrack on it. And if I recall correctly, he didn't use a hardtop.

    Well i have a ski rack on my Turbo and i think i remember, when i got mine, to have seen that 997 cabrio doens't support them.

    Good point. The RTS (Roof transport system) for Boxster. Looks weird but is ingenius.

    I believe the hard top is Aluminum ,so a magnet will not work (besides, I would never trust the thing)

    I would install the Thule "Rapid tracker " roof rack onto the hard top.
    It's rock solid, snaps on/off in seconds and is good for skis, bikes etc.
    ( and with the rack removed, all you see is 4 low profile attaching bases )

    Thanks guys!

    I used to have the Porsche RTP for the Boxster but it's not trivial to install and remove it so I ended up renting skis. I guess there's no real easy solution for 987/997 with soft-top roofs

    FWIW: About magnets. Regardless of application. They are incredibly powerful these days with weird alloys and such. Still won't attract aluminum but you can trust what mfgrs say in ferrous applications.

    I liked the old ski racks of yesteryear,--the ones that attached to the rear window vents (along the top) and to the engine grill. (I speed checked them with skis to 150 mph). With articulated spoilers back there it changes everything about how you can mount something. I suspect the Thule would be the way to go today.
