GT2 Tires

well, the time is nearing when i will take my GT2 to europe.
i am planning to ship the car end of october.

i am a bit worried about running my Pilot Sports Cup in rainy germany.

think first thing would be a black set of wheels with PS2 tires should be slapped on my car.....

any thoughts ?

I drive my cups all the time in the rain, no issues. these are NOT the old/REAL cups.

but wouldn't i simply be better off with potenzas in oem sizes ?

I have'nt driven these tyres or this car in the wet but fully intend to.
Here is an extract from Michelin's UK web site:

Easy to drive in wet conditions: wet road holding close to Michelin's sports tyre range (Pilot Sport 2) which was rated amongst the best in German press tests in March 2006 (ADAC, Sport Auto).

I guess one just has to be a little sensible where standing water is concerned but apart from that no problem

There are no factory-approved Potenzas or (non-Cup) Pilot Sports for the GT2, so you would be taking a chance with characteristics of the tires, and also with insurance cover if (God forbid) anything should happen during the trip. These tires are also not good for temps below 7*C, which you have to expect north of the Alps from October.

You might want to consider buying a set of the winter tires recommended for the GT2 just for the trip and selling them afterwards? Expensive, but safe, and you wouldn't have to rent another car if you hit conditions the GT2's summer tires couldn't live with.

Clive mentioned on our Swiss trip that his GT2 tyres only had a problem with standing water. Fine in th wet other than that.

actual Cups are much better in the wet than previous generations, so just take care of heavy aquaplaning and everything should be fine

... or try corsa's. I ve seen a lot of GT2s with those in london,ad I have them in the tt. They are fine in the wet (just don't try to race in them when raining!)

Where will you be driving the car exactly? Maybe you could also consider winter tires?

BTW, did some extensive rain driving on my Pirelli PZero Corsas (my GT2 was delivered with them). These tires are not that bad even in heavy rain. However, you obviously need to restrict the speed you are travelling at. In heavy rain 100-120kph is the maximum. In light rain (no standing water on the streets) you can travel much, much faster

My 997 TT came fitted with Pirelli Z Zero Corsas and they have been brilliant over a very wet summer in England (thinks...what happened to global warming theorists saying we would be growing red grapes in Southern England - mushrooms, toadstools and pine trees yes!)
I know its not comparing like with like but the Pirelli have been much more confident inspiring than the PS2's on my 996 GT2. Just waiting to see with what my 997 GT2 arrives.
