The alloy will take a wider tire, but you'll have to be very careful about clearance on both the inner and outer edges (against the inner arch and suspension on the inside and the arch edge on the outside).
You'll have to look for something like 285/30 or maybe 295/30, the latter available in N ratings for the 997 cars, but maybe too wide for your arches. You also need to consult the tyre manufcatures about fitting a 295 tire on a 9.5" rim, some may be OK, others not so - my recollection is 10" wide minimum for 295/30s so you might be out of luck there
