    What is the best price to negotiate on a 997S?

    Hi,

    I've been talking with my local Porsche dealer, who tells me that if I want a 997S, I will have to wait for a September build and will have to pay full MSRP. Can anyone tell me whether full MSRP at this point seems realistic or does anyone know of any other dealers/reps who will give a better deal? I've never paid MSRP before and would hate to throw good money away. Thanks!

    MSRP seems reasonable to me. Better buy now before they charge an additional dealer markup.

    by the way mark, all prices for the carreras are goin up by 2.8% in august, they price you are seeing now has maybe not increased for the august price raises?

    I agree with Coffee and Mike S. Get it now while you can. It's worth every penny.

    The demand is very high, you have to order the car. MSRP is all you get. The dealers are screaming for more cars. They have to make money too. Bad situation for "negotiating." Besides buying this car is all about "hate[ing] to throw good money away." ENJOY!

    I'm sure if you're willing to shop around you will find someone who'll give you a deal. Do the math and see if it's worth waiting. I'd think that your best deal would be on a '05 that's lyeing around.

    Suckers!!!! I paid MSRP minus $5,000. No big deal, that's what I demanded on my special-order, and they agreed. Of course, I'm not exactly in a high-density market in Ocala, Florida!! LOL!!

    Five grand buys some nice options. I would shop around, look into driving several hours to pick up the car from a more "rural" and hungry to bag a sale dealer.

    Just remember that every dollar you save off MSRP is also giving even more savings in lower sales tax and licensing fees...

    Try buying at the end of a month (or the end of the year if you can wait that long). Dealers get motivated to improve their monthly and annual sales numbers.

    I bought my 997 tip a few states away for $3,000 under retail 3 weeks ago (they through in the flat-bed at no charge). If it is here, other than CA, there are deals to be had.

    Check out the dealer on eBay who offers 997s from time to time (not the S model, though), they are in Kansas City I believe. They offered me a nice discount if I ordered the car from them, which I used to get a better one when I placed my order from my local dealer. Without another offer in hand, my local dealer wouldn't discount at all.

    This is a funny thread to me being a salesperson. I won't get into how we price our cars or what you should pay, etc.

    I did a search yesterday on the Porsche computer and there were a TOTAL of 334 available MY 2005 (non-customer orders) 997's in the country, or 6.68 TOTAL 997's per state. That is Coupe and Cab 997 and 997S variants. Compare that with 2,034 Boxster and Boxster S's combined and that is slim pickings. Every single 997 coming to us for the rest of the year is already spoken for. The good news is that the new PFS bulletin came out this week and the lease residuals are up, all the demand has inspired the bank a little.
