    Autoweek America's Best - Cayenne = Best SUV

    I just received the latest issue of Autoweek and lo and behold, our beloved Cayennes have received the honors of being voted as Best SUV for 2005!!

    The text indicated that last year, the Cayenne took third place, behind the Touareg and the Range Rover. This year, the Cayenne very closely edged out the Touareg. Third place this year went to the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    Autoweek gives credit to all three varities (V6, V8 and Turbo) as handling the rigors of off-roading very well. However, as expected of an enthusiast magazine, they favor the Turbo... with 450 hp, 457 ft-lbs torque and 0-60 in 5.5... calling it "a beast".

    So... for anyone doubting the value of Cayenne's place in the market and Porsche's decision to build it, this certainly says a lot.

    Personally, I can feel good about having two new vehicles on the list... the 2005 Honda Odyssey also made the top spot for "Best People Mover" (fourth year in a row!!).

    Cheers to Porsche for building the best SUV... and to all Cayenne owners.

    So how come the Cayenne beat the Touareg this year and not last year then?

    Editorial license....after all, you cant have a VW win something two years in a row.

    i think the touareg is a lovely vehicle and i also can't see why it beat it this year and not the year before. being a owner of both, the only thing the cayenne can out-do a touareg in is, it's a bit quicker on a straight line and around corners. the interior is a little bit more expensive, but the touareg's price is just so much more attractive

    Mike S, I agree with what you said, but have you taken you Treg in for service yet? I use to own one and after a few trips to the service dept. I knew I would never keep the vehicle, they have no concept of customer service. My dealer treated me like I had bought a used beetle, which is no excuse for treating someone poorly, but they did and I did not bother looking at other dealers. I was also shocked at the depreciation so I sold it before the hit was too huge. Sad, b/c I loved the Treg.

    well you see porsche nut, because of the higher car prices we have here they are not so common and the shipment is limited, so they keep their value much better than what you'd think. you need to wait 1 year here on the queue before you can even order the v10, the other models you can get a hold of fairly easily, but the v10 is another story. the service i get from my dealer is very good, i've bought 2 V10's from them this year i'm sad to hear they don't treat you like they should, i guess it's their loss.
