    expensive 987 vs cheap 997 (Evo mag)

    (This might have got lost in another thread, so I thought I'd start a new one.)

    There was a Boxster S with PASM vs Vanilla 997 comparison test in this month's Evo. Anyone catch that?

    Basic findings were that, yeah, the 997 is better but it's pretty close. The PASM seemed to enable later and more stable braking when cornering for the Boxster (which seems quite a nice real-world asset IMHO), and was more recoverable on the limit. The 997 had more stable traction powering out of corners though.

    Actually, re-reading it, the 987 S lapped very slightly quicker than the 997. I'll see if I can grab some scans for you guys.

    Ugh...I hate the fact that we in the states always get the issues late, especially in Ohio...thankfully we've got guys like you that can scan it! Thanks!

    I wished they would have tested both with PASM so you could really compare the two more accurately, the standard base 997 suspensions could be misleading since they are very different than PASM, its like testing one manual and the other tip. But good article nevertheless

    Seems like a reasonable conclusion to the whole 911/Boxster rivalry.

    Completely true, thats the bottom line, independantly of the PASM or no PASM

    There's a typo on the last page. Boxster S 0-100 km/h performance is 5.5 seconds, not 6.2. 6.2 is the time for the Boxster 2.7.

    Eagle eyes! I did wonder if anyone would spot that.

    Maybe we should all quit our jobs and become motoring journalists or car salesmen - I'm sure we'd do a much better job. How many times have I been to a car showroom and asked an easy technical question to be told 'I've no idea'. One guy even tried to convince me that modern engines don't loosen up any when they've been run in... Obviously never owned a new car in his life! Tsk.

    Carlito, good point but I think they were also concerned by the price, as in, would a high specced Boxster be a better drive than a low specced Carrera, no comparison is perfect, but good article, I like EVO, they are the most professionnal IMO.
