    AMV8 Specification

Based on CAR Magazine (April issue) is the first to feature V8 Vantage production.

    380bhp at 7300rpm
    308lbft at 5000rpm
    4.8 sec 0-60
    175mph (Electronically limited)
    1572kg kerb weight

    Re: AMV8 Specification

Thanks Ron. Looks like the previous torque figure was a misprint? This sounds better to me as the car is probably normally aspirated. Curb weight a little porky though...

    Re: AMV8 Specification

The idea of having a top speed limiter on a Aston is disgusting.

    Re: AMV8 Specification

must be to artificially differentiate it from the DB9 and vanquish?

the car should be able to hit 185 at LEAST

    Re: AMV8 Specification

If Aston has a non too clever strategy to differentiate or position any of their models by artificially limiting their
top speed they have lost their minds.

Its absolutely apalling to have a speed limiter on an Aston Martin. Astons are not supposed to be about having a performance nanny inhibiting the pleasure of the car.

    Its a complete insult.

Top speed limiters are prob more a function of the significant incremental costs of engineering stability of car, esp 150MPH+.....remember world's biggest mkt, US, has world's richest litigators to worry car cos. and most major mkts of US have limited places for cruising above 120MPH. Biggest disappointment is AM is roughly 300 lbs heavier than 997S.....kudos to P's engineers ....and no one even knows if this AM is as fun to drive as the under-appreciated 997S.....but if all else fails, the LA Westside cars-as-jewelry crowd may buy the AMV8 for its relatively affordable good looks and perceived exclusivity, no matter how it drives...

    Re: AMV8 Specification

Astons are about excess, not limitations.

If the car is not properly sorted out and designed and if they are merely trying to cater to the money rich boulevadier set and are willing to compromise Astons traditional values to to meet the needs of the Gucci checkbook people, then they should just leave out the V8 and put in the V6 from a Ford Ranger pick up truck.

If that is the case, why even bother to call it an Aston Martin?

    Re: AMV8 Specification

there is no proper reason this car can't do almost 190 mph

all the common players are out,

tires can now do these speeds,
the car isnt that heavy to require special tires,
    the engine is powerful enough,
i assume aston wouldn't make a car with a Coefficient of drag higher than 0.32

comes down to, artificial limiting to prevent sales / glory cannibalization from their flagships, DB9 and Vanquish.

shame on them. but they have to do it since this is their 'entry' model

    Re: AMV8 Specification

You touched one the points, its drag. Aston Martins have a beautiful shape but they have an incredibly high grag coefficient. The DB9 for example has a 0.35 , the Vanquish has a 0.32 and since the AMV8 is the same shape it should be in that ballpark, though if it has a slightly smaller frontal surface area it will help the overall drag.

Weight is not a problem since its not a big factor in top speed, which is mostly about horsepower and drag. Given that the 996TT has a smaller drag coef & smaller frontal surface area (overall drag is = veolocity x frontal surface area squared x drag coefficient) and it has more HP than the AMV8, then the AMV8 should have a significantly lower top speed. Since the 996TT's top speed is 189mph then in my opinion the AMV8 should have a top speed right on the 997S's range, 182mph or less, since the drag is more important factor than top speed (a small change in drag such as making the side mirrors smaller has a greater effect than a small change in HP) and the 997S benefits from a much smaller drag vs the 25 HP extra of the AMV8. IMO they will probably be within one or two mph of each other

    Re: AMV8 Specification

so whats with the artificial limit...

    Re: AMV8 Specification

I don't know since the Vanquish and the DB9 are not limited if I remember correctly, so why the AMV8?

Perhaps else it would be too quick for the DB9?
