Run-flat-tires tend to understeer due to the stronger carcass. In this case the tire temperature will rise which will slower the maximum possible apex speed (we are talking about street-tires and not racing tires). That's why it is impressive what the Z06 can do.

It was frequently mentioned that the Z06's run-flat tires are inferior to state-of-the-art products from Michelin or Pirelli. Still I am lacking the concept why the stiffer sidewalls induce understeer - especially considering the Z06's camber angles I'd be curious if that's the case on this car. I am more or less under the impression that the car's setup is not as remarkable and forgiving to the driver as Porsche's current lineup.

RC said:Yes, the Z06 time is impressive but I don't understand those comments about run-flat tires. They do pretty well in the dry, only when it comes to wet pavement or temperature changes, they may not be that good. Also the run-flats on the Z06 aren't just "ordinary" run-flats but have been developed for the Z06, incl. the rubber mixture.

Yes, but we're comparing run flats on the Z06 and semi slicks on the Porsches. C'mon RC . . . you've gota admit that that is NOT a fair comparison.

    KF,

Do you know of any links to lists for tuner 996/997Turbos for HH/KK and the N-Ring?

Although I am someone else, may I answer your question?

    www.einszweidrei.de
    www.track-challenge.com

Both provide performance numbers for various cars, amongst those are plenty of modified ones. The later in fact provides the data of past SportAuto supertests.

I am actually surprised that nobody discussed the Wendland's impressive performance yet. Not only the laptime but the improved character of the engine at low and mid RPM numbers was highly praised by SportAuto's journalists.
What appears remarkable is their statement that they don't offer any more powerful modifications for the 997 turbo so far, since so far the risk of damaging the engine is present still some understanding of the new internals necessary.

    Thanks Ferdie,

Just what I was looking for.

I am sure Wendland will have further upgrades for the 997TT in due course.

    1. have you ever driven a Z06 on wet pavement on a colder day?

    2. the "semi-slicks" used on the 997 Turbo were the Porsche "approved" N-rated version, meaning that it isn't quite as sticky as REAL semi-slicks to provide a certain basic safety when driving on wet pavement.

Meaning: the tread mixture of the Z06 is pretty close to a semi-slick, even if it is a run flat tire, believe it or not. So I would compare it more to the Porsche semi-slicks than to the stock Turbo tires (Michelin PS2).

Yes, the Z06 is an impressive performer, I always said that but it is also a car with lots of compromises compared to the 997 Turbo.

    You're welcome, buddy!

They definately will provide further upgrades - my comment was aimed at RC's statement a couple of weeks ago that people should be reluctant with early modifications. It just proved him right...

    I'm always right!

Just kidding. Maybe some people here should ask themselves a question: why does a car nut and hardcore enthusiast like RC wait and why didn't he already tune his car? The answer is pretty simple: I don't want to play the guinea pig for anybody, not even for people I trust.

I have all the time in the world, my 997 Turbo is not a red light racer and I don't plan drag racing too soon either.
