    Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

    Hello guys,
just a small report relative to a Cayenne Turbo that i testdrove last monday. The car was black with black interior 23" wheels from Rinspeed and a complete Rinspeed suspension setup. Engine was standard with no power output modification: so 500bhp. First impression was really positive. Nice appearance of both interior and exterior. New shape looks much more aggressive then the old one and the car seems bigger.
General feeling on the road was:
    - ride silky smooth relative to my 911 but no big difference in sport, normal or comfort setting. This i think is due to the wheels and to the modified suspension. Even with modified springs + shock absorbers the car felt quite soft and so pretty comfortable.
-Engine note was pretty low and engine response pretty good but you completely felt the 2.5 tons of the car. Acceleration is smooth but it did not impress me. Aerodynamic noise starts to be present from 120-130 kmh coming from A pillar but i consider it not as dramatic as the one i reported from new Audi S5 rearview mirros.
-The car feels less sporty than i was expecting. The first sensation is that the steering wheel is not direct at all. It needs a lot of steering angle to actually move the wheels and you feel quite on a bus rather then on a sport utility vehicle. Centre of gravity feels, as normal, pretty high but cornering performance is higher then i felt actually possible. I didn't push it too much, expecially because the car was rolling a lot and i had no previous experience with such a car, expecially on tight corners. I do not have enough skills to push it safely. Limits were far from what i was driving. Nice point.
Overall sensation by the way is that it is not a car you can enjoy sporty driving on the road, at least i will not, but it's very good for long journeys.
Problem at the end could be fuel consumption: pushing it a bit it's around 20-23 l/100km that it's quite a lot.

I'm not convinced if this is the car i want to go skiing but it could be a nice candidate. Something to put aside the 996TT but absolutely not a substitute.

    Cheers
    Silver

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

Thanks for a great review. Cayenne in any form will not be a substitute for our 911, but a good companion. Not sure what 23" wheels is good for. I should get mine next week and I'm so excited.

    Did the car have PDCC?

    Yes it did

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

    Hi Silver,

Not sure what car you are used to driving but with PDCC switched on the car is level all the way, yes switch it off and she is bobbing a lot again.

Are you sure your Cayenne turbo was equipment with PDCC as it is an option and doesn't come standard.

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

mark is right, with pdcc it should be hard to roll.

Try the accelaration above 180 km/h... and say good bye to a lot of cars

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

I just test drove an 08 CTT and was quite impressed. Sport mode and PDCC switched to sport as well. Very tight handling with no roll. The engine has a very aggressive throttle tip in and the car seems to continue to sprint forward even after you let off the throttle. The wife is convinced this will be her next grocery getter/kid hauler

Well do not forget that at the moment i'm driving a 996TT. I know that the CTT is very fast but i really felt the ton of a difference over my little baby.

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

Did you even bother to push the sport button ?

That's where the throttle becomes too soft and revs start flying.

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Testdrive: Report

I started the car with the sport button on and the suspension on the stiffest setting because that was the setup i was mainly interested in. Sorry if i forgot to mention
