    MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

I've been advised by an user who tested turbo 996 to get the authomatic gear because of the clutch - that becomes very heavy on short travels. What do you think ABOUT 997 TURBO? is similar?

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

I can think of alot of reasons to get an automatic rather than a clutch, but the reason that is stated "becomes very heavy on short travels" isn't one of them. The clutch effort is more than acceptable even in stop and go traffic and if anything it is light (and a little non-linear)

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

I really hope they release the PDK soon, otherwise I'm going to have a real dilemma on my hands when my allocation comes up.

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

Your best bet is to drive both and find what suits you the most, at the end of the day its what puts a smile on your face that counts and when i test drove the 997 tt in tiptronic i have to say that it is conpetely different from the tip transmission in my 996 turbo.. a big improvement imo

If the 911 clutch is of any concern for you, you're getting the wrong car. I know that many people make complaints about the clutch but they should try the Carrera GT clutch to see what is really "difficult".

I would have never bought the 996 Turbo with Tiptronic but I bought the 997 Turbo with Tiptronic. Huge difference between both systems.

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTION?

If you went behind, would you buy it again with the automatic drive?

" and considering also the new coming of drive dsg soon, would youd you make the same choice?

    THENKS YOU

A test drive certainly is recommended, but I doubt you'd have an opportunity to really test the Tip in the corners. Based on written reports, Atomic80's driving experience's and reading the 911 997 Turbo Product Information document, I concluded my driving style would be better suited to the manual. Although I like the better acceleration the Tip offers it was the possibility of an inadvertent shift in a corner with the potential of upsetting the car that put me off the Tip. My hang up is related to the moving of your foot from the gas to the brake within 1.5 seconds to get the proper downshifts accomplished before entering a corner. Since I won't track the car, I won't be stuffing it into the corners at speed. Not sure if this makes sense to you all, but I've made up my mind, and I ain't changin' it. At least not on this matter.

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

Any idea what the % split is between Tip & manual, either 996 stats or current 997?

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

Whoever said that the clutch in a 996 TT was heavy in short trips obviously hasn't driven one!!

The 996 TT came with a Power assisted clutch and therefore it is very, very light. As a matter of fact it would have to be one of lightest clutches that you could ever buy on any performance car.

I agree that I would never buy a 996TT in Tip, however the 997 TT Tip performance figures speak for themselves.

Heavy on short trips? Haven't heard that before but even if that was the case, think of how much fun you will have with the manual.

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

I'm new to the Porsche world but the clutch in the 997TT is far from heavy. My previous ride was an E39 M5 and my new Turbo is a treat to drive in traffic compared to the M5. As others have said I don't think the clutch feel should be the reason to choose the manual over the tip.

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

The 997 Turbo I test drove had a clutch MUCH lighter than my 997 C2S!

    Re: MANUAL OR TRIPTONIC...part two

lightest clutch of any manual transmission car i have ever driven, certainly wasn't expecting that.
