Ok. The GT3 is on based on the C4 UNIBODY (if we are getting technical) whilst the RS is based on the C4S as shown on PistonHeads

The Wide body is for Homologation purposes, which is why it is on the RS.

There is no perspex screen on the RS.

    Expect 420HP.

RS will be at Paris not Geneva

    That is all.

for the slow learners, that means both have the "wide" body like the four wheel drive 997s and not the "narrow" body of the C2 and C2S?

Sorry if that took an extra step for me to get it rigth.

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

all 996 GT3's (mk1,mk2,rs) have the 996 C4 UNIBODY because the body is more "hard" and in the fron diff case they can put the fluel tank for long races .

Seems now that 997 gt3 have the same body of 997 C4 .....

sorry ..but the C4 and C4S have the same body .....

    That's right.
I think Mr RS is confusing the terms body and chassis here.
C4 and C4S have same body but different chassis.
The GT3 and GT3RS will have nothing in common chassis wise with the Carrera line up (2 or 4). The suspensions, wheels, tyres, brakes will all be redesigned.
It doesn't make sense for the RS to be based on the C4S body for homologation as the GT3 cup is already homologated for the Carrera Supercup.
Now maybe the RSR will be widebody for FIA GT series but I doubt it.

Porsche built the 996 gt3 rs (road version) to homologate the 996 Gt3 RSR for the Fia gt,Lemans etc ....
the 996 gt3 cup can't run in Fia Gt but only in Supercup , Vln ,new fia gt3 challenge ,etc ...
so ...its' possible that Porsche use the C2 body for the supercup and the C4 body for fia alms .......

i need to call herr Singer ?

That'd be great. Meaning the RSR would be wide bodied with over 450 hp, awesome!
The current 996 GT3 RSR is a beast, 440 hp!
I thought the RSR was on sale before the GT3 RS road car?

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

will the GT3 also be available as a CS or straight to the RS?

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

TEE1 has a good point. Seems like there might not be a CS option anymore.

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

    Ok.

    In simplistic terms.

    GT3 Narrow Body

    GT3RS Wide Body.

Just like the pictures on PistonHeads

    My apologise for the confusion.

    :-)

but what should we prefer? Narrow or wide body? One would think that the narrow body looks less agressive but perhaps is better areodynamically (not that this matters for me). Are the 997 cup cars not also narrow bodies?

Yes the 977 GT3 Cup are narrow body.
Traditionally, the GT3 is a narrow body because in the past wide body n/a versions were mostly for show which is exactly what the GT3 isn't.
Having said that, wide body rear axle allows theoretically better balance mid corner so that could be an explanation.
    We'll see.
Aesthetically, I agree, a wide body with aerokit would certainly look rather nice.

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

yes !! well said Fanch , but wide body is heavier than narrow body ,so the car is slowier .....

but the Gt3 rsr race car is very wide ....they need to have big tires ......

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

this puts me in a real bind. Not sure I want the RS as it is a bit to focused - but from an appearance point I like the wider body. also like on the 996 I always believe the premium for the RS was not worth it.

    Any views?

Haven't drive either to be honest.
The way I see it, the RS was always the hardcore one, really desirable for obvious reasons, but not sure all its owner would be able to exploit it 100%. Having said, you could write the same about the whole 911 range.
The standard GT3 is more usable for the open road.
You could ask Zzoba, he owned an RS for while.

    Re: 997 GT3 - Availability Update

I had a Gt3 before my RS and found both very drivable covering quite big distances in the RS both here and on the continent.

The question is do you want an RS or do you just like the look? There are several reasons why the 996 RS fell out of bed quite so badly, and too a certain extent the GT3 as well.

I think that one of the major reasons was that the wrong people bought them, and then got out in a hurry. Once the market saw that everyone jumped on the band wagon and the prices went down even further.

Before you buy place an order for a 997 GT3 or RS go and drive a 996 version. This will give you a bit of an idea regarding the differance between the two. Not conclusive but you will get the idea.

As for the premium paid for the RS over the GT3 it is worth every penny. To the right person.

I loved my RS, best car I have ever owned. Only hope the new one matches up. Can't wait to take delivery

That may be true or it could simply mean that Porsche will use lighter body parts (possible as I've read that the 997 TT has lighter doors I believe) and more horsepower (I wish but doubt it) for the RS, which would make it faster and better handling than a narrow body including the "regular" GT3.

I thought I read somewhere that the difference between the GT3 and the RS was going to be bigger in 997 configuration than that of the 996 GT3 and 996 GT3RS.

    I can't hardly wait!!!
