Aww, that is even worse than having no information at all. Schumi likes to practice with a heavier car. And he likes to hide his strengths.

So all of this might contain quite a bit disinformation.

Starting grid will give us a better picture.

Can't believe Karun Chandhok is being allowed to enter qualification when he has not driven a single timed lap in Winter testing, Friday Practice 1, Friday Practice 2 or Saturday Practice i.e. he has never driven a timed lap in the Formula 1 car he will race in

His only experience of driving a Formula 1 car was a brief test for Red Bull Smiley

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Yes, it is quite disappointing but Karun Chandhok drove a F1 two years ago during Winter testing.. Let's see the fight between Ferrari,Merc,Mclaren and Redbull!

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

Congratz to Vettel, he certainly is the quickest driver, I can't wait to see how he performs during the race.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

    Qualification result

    www.formula1.com/results/season/2010/824/

IMO only Massa came near Vettel's amazing lap in Q3. In the post qualification press conference, Alonso seemed unable to understand how Vettel could be 0.507 secs faster than him in Q3.

Hamilton outqualifies Button but is still over 1 sec slower than Vettel.

Rosberg nearly 3 tenths faster than Schumi!

Should be a very interesting race - IMO only one of the Ferrari drivers can beat Vettel.

BUT it will be interesting to see long run laptimes on heavy fuel loads which could be hugely different from these single lap laptimes on low fuel.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

I agree easy, Vettel is amazingly quick, the on-board camera shows his wizardry on the curb stones and stunning quick reactions.

But Vettel never will be able to drive a full race this aggressive, let alone the whole championship, so he probably will not be able to keep up with a more consistent driver.

Schumi was slower, but still not bad at all IMO. New car, new team, long pause and almost no training in the simulator. He will improve a lot over the next few races.

I agree on that since the setup has to be a bit of a compromise with those extreme fuel loads (compared to previous seasons).

All in all, the results of the top teams came as expected. Massa very eager to show adequate performance next to his teammate and certainly similiarly quick in a good car, Rosberg proving his talent even next to Michael Schumacher (who certainly will get going in the long run) and Button not significantly far behind Hamilton. All of them beaten by a young Vettel who showed an impressive performance and backs up his claim to become champion. Smiley

Schumi should give it a rest, its his first qualifier and should take on board the fact that Rosberg is a very good driver, as I stated before...

Vettel is a class act and love the fact that he has just a Renault lump behind him,,well done.....

By Schumacher´s personal standards, he might have expected to be equally fast as Rosberg, his former superiority evening out with his abstinence from F1 in the past three years. To me it says more about Rosberg´s abilities than Schumacher´s difficulties, even if the later doesn´t want to admit this.

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

In this race they say the fastest driver is not the one that is going to win, its the one that will manage tire wear the best in combination with a good pitstop strategy. If Vettel goes that hard in race he will have to stop 3 tiimes for tires. Also the same cars with 170litres of fuel can handle drastically different than in qualifying.

IMO the important part of qualifying was to get a good postion in the grid so as not to get caught in the middle of the mid-pack in the first laps, but the overall positions, two places up or down, is not that important.

Good to see that the Redbull is also a very fast car, Vettel deserves it. Massa as usual is a good classifier, and great to see that the accident had no ill efect on his skills. No surprise with Alonso, he is not bad at qualifying but its not his strong point, his strong point is racepace. He lost some time in the second interval of the lap, while Massa and Vettel made perfect laps.

I din't think Schumy would be on the top 3 today but din't think he would do so bad It must be really hard for someone like him to accept today's result, I expect him to be very agressive tomorrow, hopefully not overly agressive. But I wouldn't count Shumy out yet, he may not have his past edge in absolute speed but his also another driver who can manage his racepace extremly well with his experience, so the tables can turn towards the end of the race.

Button is blaming the car for his performance... IMO he is a mediocre driver compared to Alonso, Hamilton & Vettel, he appeared in the map last year only because of his car, and fighting a driver like Bariccelo for the title because he had the same car. He has raced countless GPs and never showed any championship talent. IMO Hamilton will whoop his butt consistently along this season, and if you factor in the fact that McLaren is Team Hamilton in reality, his ability to perform is only going to get worse as the season progresses and the efforts of McLaren become more and more obvious to be on Hamilton in order for him to fight for the championship better. I just hope they told Button that before he signed, because they did not tel that to Alonso or Kovalainen before they signed. This time its another brittish driver who is getting the shrot end of the stick so I'm curious to how differently will the brittish press handle the issue this time.

+1 Rosberg is doing great things. Keep in mind Schumi had a Q2 time that would have put him in solid 4th on the starting grid. So he can go faster.... I'll be very interesting tomorrow!

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

    DETAILED DRIVER/TEAM POST Q ANALYSIS

    http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2010/3/10522.html

Red Bull and Ferrari are happy

McLaren and Mercedes a bit surprised at the considerable distance, but they still very much up there.

Renault is just happy they got one into Q3

Force India is also good as expected with 10th on the hard tires.

Williams and Sauber both seem very much at their limit. With the teams ahead of them it will be quite the challenge to climb the ladder this season. I imagine disappointment for both teams.

Toro Rosso is steady at the end of the pack of exsisting teams but could challenge both Sauber and Williams.

VIrgin showed good work with the best Q of the newcomers! I expect surprises from Glock in this car as they gain more confidence through the season.

Lotus did not impress but at least got the cars out and running, their learning curve will be steep this year but i enjoy seeming them race.

HRT has probably the most work ahead of them, given their position. For them its just good to see both cars in Q and collecting data at this point!

Boy o boy, this will be a great season, the teams are much closer than i imagined and so much could really change in the course of the season. 4 teams appear to have a slight advantage over the pack, but the line is blurred and development/tweaking could easier have Williams, Sauber and even Force India challenge the top 4 and snap some critical points from past worldchamps. Vettel is as hoped, in 110% form and his team have not lost the edge, they really seem to want it this year! it good to see Fcars back on top but im not so interested in them this season. I hope Massa will take more points than Alonso, but he will fight hard for his points. McLaren will be interesting to watch with both champs in the team and might get some inhouse competition that could hurt or push them. Mercedes is off to a great start, but this goes to show that they have a lot of work to do before they can win races, but they will! As for the close runner ups williams, sauber and force india, it will be very difficult to pass the 4 but it will happen at times in rainy conditions or absurd track accidents.

the bullshit stops when the flag drops

Of course any real race driver shouldn't be happy being behind, thats why they all have got to where they are now, in an F1 racing car. However, in the context of what he said I still think it was disrespectful.Could it be that the guys that he is racing against are just that little bit better than what he previously thought..If I was Rosberg and after hearing his comment's I would try for another 0.4 secs advantage..

    Re: 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix

i have a question actually. i was thinking about fuel strategy and am a little confused as to when they fuel with regards to qualifying. They fuel before the quali right? if that's the case and they must all fuel to do all three Q sessions and the entire race. BUT, what if they make a mistake and miss Q2 and Q3. That means they would have more fuel on board for the entire race? In other words are the Q3 (ie top 10) 2 fuel laps lighter then?
