    Front License Plate

Recently I was driving with my 23 year old daughter (long blonde hair, makes serious money modling bathing suits to pay her way through law school) in my 997s.

A motorcycle cop started following me real closely, with his high beam on, so bright I had to flip my rear view mirror to bright. He waits until we are in a construction zone and hits his siren, red lights and starts screaming on his bull horn "PULL OVER IMMEDIATLY" he then forces me over into the construction zone filled with tennis ball size rocks. He comes up to my window with the worst attitude imaginable as I was not breaking the law he wants my license, insurance etc I give it to him and all he can figure to write me up for is no front plate! After he seems to cool down I ask him what was that about? What was with the attitude? He confesses "I just couldn't stand it you a 60 year old man in that black new porsche WITH THAT BLONDE! i had to hasstle you"
ANYWAY...my question is I remember reading here that there is a mount for a front plate that somebody makes that you can remove and it leaves no marks or holes..I cant seem to find it in search.
Does anybody know who makes this and where I can buy it? I think it mounts on the side or on the tow hook?
    Thanks

    Re: Front License Plate

I just made a couple again and have a few left.
It mounts to the front tow hook .

    Re: Front License Plate

Next time surreptitiously RECORD what that guy has to say. I would think that the courts should know the kind of "enforcement officials" they have patroling our streets to make them "safer." (I also always have a front plate on my car so they CAN'T find anything wrong. I've been pulled over 4 times already with mine and never qualify for tickets...)

    Re: Front License Plate

Whatta dk! Sorry to hear that.

Your somewhat traumatic experience is EXACTLY why I put the GD front plate on. Who needs to give them an _excuse_ to nail you whenever they're in a bad mood.

Dan, you never told us you have 23 year old daughter with long blonde hair!

    Re: Front License Plate

Haven't been pulled over in either of my porsches which both donot have front plates. I just keep the front plates in the trunk. Been lucky. I am not drilling holes in my from bumper/spoiler. Hell no.

You can drill them UP, not IN.

I wish I didn't do it, but the rednecks out here would go after me like the California cop went after you. So I installed the front license plate. In Virginia, it's a $250 fine to be running without a front license plate. I don't see them fining the Corvettes being run without them, but I can feel the resentment from those who question why I bought a 997s instead of a Corvette. Out here, rednecks usually rule, but I'm doing my darndest to give them a bad case of heartburn.

I tried MMD's method but gave up as it was very difficult. Instead, I did the straight install, but someone on this site gave a reference to a web site that offered matching plugs for covering up the holes fashionably. I bought a set for about $35. Can't remember the name of the outfit, but if anyone wants to know, I'll look it up.

You should try your level best to identify that a**hole and take him to justice. Your 23-year-old daughter is a perfect witness and she should also sue for stereotyping.

That was serious abuse of that cop's authority. He should be summarily fired and jailed.

I just KNEW sooner or later someone was going to say this... wow, isn't the american sueing tradition a great one?
Jeez, have a laugh over it, at least this copper was honest. Guy probably was a car nut who wanted to take a better look at the car. Nottrying to offend anybody, but I always found it weird that whenever you step on an americans' toes, he immediately wants to sue you...

That sounds like a good idea but check you state laws first. I know in NH it is a felony to record without permission or that "beep" tone at prescribed intervals.

    Re: Front License Plate

    Forgeddaboudidt.

You do anything and you're gonna be remembered and possibly stalked by that cop.

That guy's days are probably numbered anyway.

Figure it this way. Years ago when we grew up a large percentage of cops were secure financially. Today they get paid cr*p and alot more of them feel lot more stress..., who's gonna be their targets more often?

I put my plate on because I want ZERO contact with them especially today.

You could not be more wrong. You are generalizing without judgment. I am the last to use the courts in America or for that matter in my European business dealings... However, justice is there for cases like these, where justice is due.

    Re: Front License Plate

LOL, Adias, yes I am generalizing. No offence intended, will remove post if you fell offended by it. However, when I read the story, I asked myself how long it would take before anybody would post "sue him!"
What "unjustice" has been performed? A guy being pulled over to be checked? The cops have this right, don't they? His only fault was to admit that he did it with no reason. So what? Anyway, let's have a beer and be happy!

I am not an attorney and I will defer to learned counsel however I have a passing familiarity with law enforcement. In a nut shell, in America we have the U.S. Constitution and its Amendments. The Fourth Amendment, prevents unreasonable search and seizure. It guards our freedom. It is our first defense from turning the country into a police state. Stopping someone and detaining them is, in effect, an abridgment of their right to be free. When one does it under the color of state law, that is to say, a policeman acting in a law enforcement capacity, he needs sufficient reason to detain that person. Some of those reasons may be witnessing a crime being committed (or an infraction of the law) by the person being stopped, or having probable cause to believe that person has committed a crime, or having a warrant in order to seize/arrest that person, or placing that in protective custody because he may be a harm to himself or someone else.

However, an officer stopping someone solely because wants to hassle a 60 year old who has a cute 20 something passenger in his sports is woefully inadequate. It is a violation of one's civil rights, regardless of how long it was. The difficulty is that if you try to make something of this the officer can simply state he pulled the car over because of the missing front plate, a reason which certainly justifies a motor vehicle stop. If the officer admitted to the court that the only reason he pulled the vehicle over was to hassle the driver, there would be serious consequences. Since you may never get the officer to admit at court what he admitted to boardrider, Dan L's suggestion to tape record the incident is tempting. However, I believe there are laws that proscribe recording without that person's knowledge.

While the stop seems innocent to most lay people, I assure you federal court justices and civil rights litigators take a dim view of this type of "police" work.

    Freedom is precious.

    Re: Front License Plate

I got a $25 ticket while legally parked at a meter in Brentwood - for no front plate!

Someone's going to be really happy hearing this one! (But she's not my daughter!)

I put the plate on as I did not want to go through the hassle if pulled over.

Exactly. No F plate is like driving around with a broken tail light. Perfect for getting pulled over just after you've just committed a major felony.

A couple of years ago I was stopped by the Highway Patrol and the first thing that the trooper did was look to see if I had a front plate. He looked very disappointed when he saw that I had one. I only got a "warning" ticket for the original reason he stopped me.
The minor asthetic improvement of not having a front plate is not worth the "hassle factor" if you're stopped in a state that requires front plates.
