    Help needed

I'm about to switch to winter tires on our C32 AMG. The problem is that since I bought the car used and the previous owner didn't have a separate set of rims for his winter tires. I'm now in the positon where I either pay up for a set of new AMG rims, try to find a used set (or replicas) or let a tire shop switch tires. Switching tires is really no problem but I've heard that there is a risk in changing tires on the rims (the tires getting damaged in the process, which might not show up until a situation where it could get dangerous).

I'm too cheap to pay up for a new set (5000 euros in Sweden) for winter tires, but have found a complete set original AMG rims with winter tires on Ebay Germany for starting bid 1000 euros. Does anyone have a suggestion how to buy them and get them shipped from Bonn to Stockholm (the seller wants them to be picked up in Bonn and I presume at his house). Fedex? Suggestions plse.

Secondly if that doesn't work out, does anyone know of AMG replicas that resembles the C32 AMG rims?

    thanks in advance

5000 Euro for a set of winter wheels? Ouch.
Just a suggestion: why don't you call a german Mercedes dealer close to the border with Denmark and ask for a quote?
Or maybe there is a shorter way (by ferry?) from Sweden to Germany directly. I don't know how far away you live from Germany but this might be a solution if it isn't far away.
I'm pretty sure you get a brandnew wheel set for less than 2000 Euro.

Ordering on eBay? I don't know. There is also something you have to be aware of: there was an official AMG warning regarding certain rims used for winter tires. They were DC (or even AMG) rims in the right size but they weren't approved for the C32 AMG due to possible problems with the brake calipers. Apparently there was the danger of the caliper touching the inner spokes at certain temperatures.

Best advice (as always ): don't try to save money on the most important thing on a car: the wheels. The wheels are the only thing which connect the car to the ground. If they "fail"...well...

You could also ask an official german DC dealer if he would be willing to send the wheels via Fedex or whatever to Sweden. Credit card payment shouldn't be a problem.

Tire "switching" is always dangerous but 17'' tires usually aren't that endangered as 18'' or larger.
Personally, I wouldn't do it because I know how tire shops work, especially when customers don't look them over their shoulders but this is everyone's personal choice I guess.

    Re: Help needed

    Hi:

I too have a C-32 and for the last two winters I simply put a set of snows on the original wheels and had the dealer do it for me.

They scratched one of the rims the first time out and they replaced it for me. However Mercedes dealers have the proper equipment to do this I wouldnt waste the money on a whole new set of wheels and tires.

So the choice is replace tires every season or buy a set of AMG original 18s with snows.

    hope this helps

Thanks guys, good info. I'm leaning to switch. Don't want any rims that aren't approved and might cause damages as RC pointed out.

5000 euros for AMG rims is robbery. When I bought winter tires to my Carrera 4, 2 years ago they cost 2500 euros for a full set. That's what a set of rims to a Volvo XC90 cost . Hats off to Porsche!

Switching tires might have to do for the time being. It's getting really cold in Sweden, and the radio reports of accidents every morning now. Buying from a MB dealer in Germany is something worth checking out but it is simply too far to Germany from Stockholm (600km to Denmark and then some 250km + ferries in Denmark ... ). Need to get it shipped in that case.

    thnx
