    Buying 08 - Need Advice

Seeking advice on buying Cayenne for daily driver in Midwest. Turbo is out - too much $. Is 'S' worth the extra $? Is V6 adequately powered? What options are 'musts haves?'

Can someone recommend a good, comprehensive review for the 08?

    Thanks

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

    hey paulg,

forget the 6 cylinder. the new S at 385 hp is certainly a good car.
personally i would not opt for anything but the turbo. its just that much better and faster.

i had a pre-facelift S and could not stick to it more than 3 months. had to opt for the turbo and did not look back since.

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

I would test drive the new V6 model and the "S" When deciding on my '06, I went with the "S' because Cayenne with V6 was underpowered. Haven't driven the '08 but understand the new V6 is a significant improvement. However, I would still opt for the "S" As far as options go here are some to consider

    PO4 - Light Comfort Package/Memory
    PC3 - Bi-Xenon Headlights w/ Washers
    7A2 - 6 Disc CD Changer
9VL - Bose Surround Sound System
1NP - Wheel Hub Covers Colored Crest
PK1 - Front Seat Heater inc Str Whl
    1D6 - Trailer Hitch w/o Hitch Ball
    CJ3 - 19" Cayenne Design Wheel
1N3 - Variable Assist Power Steering

You may also want to check out the '06 Cayenne S Titanium Edition. I understand dealers still have them at fairly attractive prices.

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

S for sure... V6 is underpowered... whatever you do don't drive the CTT. Then you won't buy the 6 or the S

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

The 08 V6 is fine for a daily work car, not a race car but what 2.5 ton truck is. I average about 35 mph on a tank of gas, couldn't justify spending the extra money with the driving I do. It has plenty of power and will cruise on interstate as fast as you want it to and I'm getting about 23 mpg.

Get the prefered package and xenon headlights.

I hear you on that... it seems I'm only as fast as the Prius in front of me...

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

Thanks to all of you for advice. I have a '05 997 in the garage for my fast romps. The Cayenne is for the grocery store and hauling dogs. The V6 sounds like my best best.

If you ever decide to get the V6 you'd be better off getting a VW T since the engine is the same and you'll save yourself a lot of money.

Personally I would test drive the S and then Q7 4.2 and see which one you like better. Do it back to back so you can get a good feel about the cars.

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

Doesn't Porsche modify the VW V6 with different pistons, heads, valve gear, ECU.............

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

I've heard the Toureg has poor reliability/build quality although I don't know the most recent situation...

V6 is modified, the V8's are different engines.

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

Go for the CS. You won't be disappointed at all. The new engine and power are a significant improvement. As Bobr said above but I think the top of the list options should be the PASM, PDCC, Bi-Xenons and sport exhaust. Next I would go for the sport seats, thermal windows and 4 zone climate control. The audio is nice but I listen to my exhaust more than I do the music. There are some really gorgeous wheels out there - like HRE.

Re: Buying 08 - Need Advice

get a manual V6; that is what i ordered. if i was in Europe i would likely have picked a manual S, but you take what you can get.

this way it is more like you are just driving a bigger version of your garage car. my 4s gets use in the winter, but the ground clearance is too restricting for anything but in town driving.
